DragonRiders,

I have an ad in the Classifieds looking for a stock chrome horn complete with mounting bracket in working order.  Found one, need one more.  But that's just the lead in.  While I was there editing my ad from two to only one needed, I got to browsing the For Sale items.  I couldn't help but notice something.  There are a lot of folks selling their Dragon.  Personally, I find that absolutely astounding !  I only found mine a couple of months ago but I can tell you this.  That bike and I are "Till death do us part !! !  My bike is BTS (Better Than Sex), almost.  I cannot imagine a scenario where I would sell or trade my Dragon.

I'm with you on this.  I bought my Valk in June and I honestly believe I will never get rid of it.  I love it.

I've had mine a week. The only way I would be happier would be if I had my '82 CBX back beside it. They both are the most eye-catching unique bikes their is, each with their own purpose. I was destined to have this one. Orange, I like orange, I collect Allis Chalmers. 6's rode them for 12 years, 13 years ago!
Destiny: I was searching on my computer for bike pics to upload to CBXclub.com gallery. I found one picture on my computer of a bike that me or my brother did not own. In '99 I had saved a picture of an orange Valk, the same as the orange '99 I just bought !!
The original owner sold mine after 12 years(the longest he ever owned anything), he had a Ultra Glide Classic to replace it. I sold my CBX after 12 years(the longest I ever owned anything) of buying it new and then bought another 12 year old 6 !

I have owned too many bikes to keep count and everyone of them was going to be the "last bike I'll ever want." My wife would laugh at me every time I made that statement. I do love my Valkyrie and can honestly say I don't want anything else at this time........but who knows how I will feel tomorrow.

But...back to the original post.  Grin

I hear you and share the idea. For example, I've been waiting and waiting for an Ultimate seat to come up in the classifieds, or on eBay etc. Nothing.
A guy local to me posted a 99 IS a while ago on local Kijiji. I actually wrote to him and suggested he sell me his seats, take my OEM one, reduce his price accordingly - and sell the bike quicker.
No dice. Said he wasn't in a hurry to sell anyway, yada-yada. Waste of a nice set of Ultimates.

Held on to mine threw financial ruin and a divorce. Still paying on it (again) but I still got it. I'll get rid of kit  before I get rid of the bike. She knows it to.  Evil

You should have bought the bike, traded what you wanted, then re-sold it.   Wink

I called my local trusted dealer and told him I wanted to trade my Standard for a nice IS. He said he has not had one in his hands in about 2 years.

Bought our 01 I/S in in 02 had 27 miles on it, Feel the same way about not being able to raplace it with anything else. That being said I'm starting to find that I don't feel the need to ride as much as when we first bought him Sad. I know there will come a day when I can't justify that amount of money just setting in the garage  Cry

One thing that is nice about owning a Valk.... or looking for one to buy is the price.  Really, where can you get a bike of this quality for 5-8K?  I've seen some go on Ebay that were a real steal.  I have a 97 Tourer and though I have other bikes, I really can't see myself getting rid of her.  It is the one Bike I actually do most of the work on myself and we've spent many hours on the road as well as in the "man cave" together.
I don't rag on other bikes, I love my BMW1200GS, and still have an older HD which is a blast to ride.  But when I want to take off for weeks, I always take the fat lady...

Well...

I must agree... My first street bike was my 99 Valk I/S in 2006 it had 21k miles on it and now has 61,700.   She runs as good as the day I rode her home.  I will NEVER sell that bike.  I loved it so much that I bought a 98 tourer a year ago and enjoy it but nothing compares to the the I/S.  I could have bought a 99 Red/Black Valk I/S with 4600 miles on it for 4500 bucks (originally listed for 8600.00) but my buddy bought it instead.  I knew that if I bought it I would get it running and sell it but I knew he really wanted an I/S and it looks to be a really good deal.  I atleast get to tear it apart  Evil   We went and picked it up yesterday at 12:30pm and by 2:30pm it was down to the block.  I wanted to pull the carbs and check the bowls, jets, pilots... etc.  All looked good except that the person this guy took it to had jacked with the carbs and didn't put the throttle cable back on correctly and the bolt for the push and pull was just wedged in the bracket.  You could literally turn the throttle 90 degrees before it would pull on the carbs.  Shotty work...   So I am going to desmog, rejet, install new intake o-rings, new exhaust gaskets, adjust pilots (they were all out of whack.. some were 1 1/2 turns to 3 turns out, yes i made sure that they were all "seated down" before I backed them back out and couldn't believe what I was witnessing, oh and on the #3 carb the slow jet screwdrive slot was busted off on one side so I got it off and it was plugged.), flush radiator, change oil/filter, flush brake and clutch fluid, and synch carbs.  I will tear down the rear end and service it after it gets to running good.  I love to work on these bikes as much as I like to ride them.  Not to "fix" them but to do Preventative Maintenance.   cooldude

Anyhow... yes many are selling their bikes but not this guy.  I keep looking at the ones for sale.  I would love to find a good deal on a burgandy and black I/S I think they are beautiful.  Enough talking about bikes there is still time to be had at riding so enjoy the days ahead and enjoy your week  cooldude

Mike,

the great thing about today's world of technology is the feeling that you have a family of techies that are just a few keys from lending a hand.   If it gives you any confidence I have learned everything I know from this wonderful and willing group of people of the VRCC.  I have made great relationships with folks on here by talking to them on the phone or email through some of the problems I was troubleshooting or contemplating on doing to my bike.   You have many opinions but also those that have experience what you have done or thinking of doing all you have to do is get in there and read about it then start tearing it apart.  When all else fails just ask the "board".  Someone will sure be willing to help.  I am no where close to knowing what I am doint....

I will send you a PM w/ my contact info if you ever need to get ahold of me...

Thanks for the kind words....

You can look at the bikes being sold two ways.

It seems to me that we get almost as many new members as we do bikes for sale in the classifieds. Using myself as an example, I knew that I wanted a Valkyrie, so I started to research them and what do I run into in my search?            VRCC of course!

It is normal for most people (other than impulse buyers) to research their purchase on the internet today instead of just stopping into a dealers showroom and buying a bike and riding away like they used to, so VRCC may very well be the winner.

Never owned anything that was not for sale at the right price.

Make an offer and it may be yours.

Except this one Bike I'll be buried with.

Till death do us part, which with the Good Lord's Help may be a while.

Have had my 1500C exactly one week today.  Rode it home 370 miles.  The last two hours were thru solid, heavy rain.  Hated to put her thru it, but she never missed a beat.  Looking forward to many years of clear skies and open road.  Personally, I am grateful that at least one owner was willing to sell.  To me.

Your absolutely correct croaker  cooldude

And welcome to not only a "club" but welcome to one of the best extended families you will ever find.  We have our moments but I tell you this is more than a forum these are fantastic folks and glad you found the VRCC.  If you ever have a question or concern never hesitate to ask or search the history and you will find your answer.  And....  we do a yearly get together and it is the most amazing thing I have been to in my life (exception was when I married my wife).  Look forward to meeting you one of these days.

I bought my first Valk in 2001, it was a Yellow & Cream 99 STD still in the crate at the local Honda shop.  I sold it in 2003 telling my wife we should get a boat so the whole family could enjoy it.  After that I spent many hours watching Cragslist and the papers. I November of 07 I found another 99 Yellow & Cream STD in Carlsbad Ca. had some conversations with the owner, bought a plain ticket an flew out to CA. The next day I left and road it home to Holt Mo.  This one will not get away!!  All though I would like to have an Interstate...
