Nope it is fairly easy. You will have to take the seat off and remove the tank.  Make sure you turn the petcock off before removing the line.  you will also have to remove the petcock handle. On the IS, you also have the fuel sensor wires to disconnect.  Go slow and remember where things go and you will be fine.

When you pull the gas line off have some paper towels to catch a small amount of gas from the line.
Needle nose pliers will help remove and re-attach the lines.

There is a phillips screw that has to be loosened  inside the petcock handle.

A small piece of lumber to place under the rear of the tank will help with space as you re-attach the hoses.

Have fun

one extra thing I do is take out the one small 8mm bolt that holds the petcock lever on the framework of the bike.  Once you remove this bolt, the whole assembly can be removed and this gives you a lot more room to get to the petcock hoses etc.

Do you need to take the hoses off, or is it possible to lift the tank enough to replace the air filter ?

You do not have enough slack in the lines to get the tank high enough to get the screws out of the air box.  Tank needs to come off for this job.

This was posted some time back about , " son helt tank up from front while I replaced filter"
I`m with Joe on this. I don`t see how that is possible, but then again I`ve never tried it. Undecided
