Well, it appears that Obama and company want to gouge small business AGAIN.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39819230/ns/us_news-environment/

With the price of road tractors through the roof and F-350 pickups at $61k.  I shudder to think about what the cost will be after this new thing.

Ford diesel also? I still kick myself for trading my 2006 5.9 Cummings 27 mpg and 15,000 miles between oil changes if "not" towing, My 2009 EPA special could not get more than 15 mpg...read the comments on the link, feel like we are hearing a echo lol, The EGR also was catching on fire..Robert can you imagine recirculating Diesel carbon back into the intake manifold of a Diesel BRILLIANT!!  uglystupid2  so much for the 300+ thousand mile motor that made them famous.

I was standing there when this thing sounds like it wants to take off all of a sudden. I asked whats that and the tow guy gave me a ear full including that this truck cost 7k more because of all this stuff. After seeing this I could more than understand why this thing would catch on fire. Actually I'm surprised it doesn't happen more. I can remember when catalytic converters came out and you couldn't go into a forest area with them. Do you remember all when they started with all the fuel saving stuff and you had a 400 cubic engine putting out 150 hp and ran like garbage? Hope fully they will get their act together and work this out but for you and guys like you that have new diesels I feel for you.

I'll only say this, I love my 5.9 Cummins.  It's an 02 Ram 2500 HD, Camper Special and just keeps on pulling.

My brother in law, an engineer who works for Cummins, told me that if I decided to trade for a new Dodge/Cummins to pull all the Emissions crap off and it would run like a real truck but with it, not so much.  I think I'll stay with the 02 and go with a Banks upgrade.

Emissions is a large reason why caterpillar pulled out of semi truck motors after 2009. Adding more electronic emissions equipment to a motor  just allows for more things to fail, costing more $$$$

It costs money to keep the air clean.  I'll take clean air over the crap I've seen in China.

Understood but, there are other reasons China has air pollution issues in that region.  Diesels and gas engine are not the major reasons for all the air issues in China.  There needs to be balance in everything we do.  Diesel engines play a very small role in the environment but are carrying a very large burden.  I don't think most folks mind paying their fair share but in this case, the diesel engine has become a political football being kicked around by those wanting to score political points.

Yes, I know that... it is industrial plants and coal fired power plants that contribute most of the problem.  Actually, China has significantly more stringent auto and truck pollution requirements than the US.

Fully disagree on this one.  Diesels are much dirtier engines, most specifically with particulate matter, aka, soot, and the carcinogenic pollutants they emit.  Two thirds of all particulate matter comes from diesel engines, and nearly half of all oxides of nitrogen.  And this is with a relatively small percentage of all engines being diesel.

Everything is a 'political football'.  The same was said about efforts to rein in pollution in gas powered vehicles.  The same is said about trying to do something about airplanes and ships, and stationary diesels.  In reality, in the past, costs of ownership weren't wholly borne by the person with the car or truck... everybody else put up with pollution and its environmental and health impacts.  Now, costs are being transferred to where they rightly belong... to the person who elects to use the technology.  I'm OK with that... even if it is at times uneven.

We can no longer get a Ford van chassis in a diesel. So we went with a Gm one. So far its been for the better. Had alot of problems with the powerstrokes.

We had to replace 2 EGR's a month apart on our Powerstrokes. I never knew diesels had EGR valves till then.  ???
