Sorry about the delay but I have been suffering through a cold for the past week.
My buddy Lee and I left on Thursday while it was still cold but as we wound our way south the temps kept rising and we were adjusting (removing) gear at the gas stops. We got into the Super 8 in Clinton, TN around 6:30PM and called it a night.
Friday morning after a quick stop at Wal-Mart, Lee needed some additional cold weather gear, we met Joe, Paul, Gregg and Gordon for breakfast at Hardees. After introductions, food and general chit chat Joe lead the flatlanders around the mountains that he calls home. We ended up coming across the Skyway and into Robbinsville. Lee and I went to dinner and afterward started meeting people around the fire pit. Had the chance to catch up with old friends and meet some new as the night and the fire wore on.
Saturday morning after breakfast Lee and I met everyone at the Shell station to get ready for the ride. The first stop ... Deals Gap so we headed north on US-129. After re-grouping at Deals Gap we headed south on NC28 which became GA28 and then SC28. The colors and roads were fantastic. We stopped for a late lunch for some excellent BBQ and then it was back to Robbinsville.
As the sun and temps went down the fire and fellowship kept us warm. There was that odd incident with Laura’s hair and I am not sure what it was all about but everything seemed to work out OK. Joe let us know when the ride was in 2011 so we started to line up our rooms. It was getting late and Lee and I had a long way to ride on Sunday so we said our goodnights and called it an evening.
Sunday, like all the rest, started on the cool side as Lee & I left around 8:00AM. Once again as the day wore on the temps kept climbing. I got Lee home about 7:30pm and I was home by 8:15pm.
In summary, I spent 4 days in some of the most wonderful riding weather you could ask for, riding with some of the best folks I know and on some of the best roads for a motorcycle that nature has ever provided. Now if I could only kick this cold!
And for the record the 2011 Fall Color ride will be October 14 and 15 … hope to see you there.
