He might lick ya to death now, but when he is a little older and senses fear in one of his masters because of a stranger, my money is on him protecting his masters without hesitation.
Looks like a great choice.

Jeff I think you probably have a good mixture there. While both Dogs are terrific loyal family breeds, their history goes way back. Both breeds were believed to have been used as fighting and bull baiting dogs. The Boxer was used as a German police dog and the Mastiff well known in England as the estate guardian. They would watch over the large English estates warding off game poachers. They would hold trespassers down until someone would command them to release them. I have had both breeds come through our obedience classes. Great dogs the Mastiff being a little slower moving than the Boxers. Do your self and your family a favor obedience train the pup ,socialize it , treat it with a gentle hand. I was researching the mastiffs years ago when looking for a new pup. Went to a Mastiff specialty show it was so cool to be walking around and over these big gentle giants as they lay sprawled out waiting to enter the ring, some weighing over 200 lbs. Both breeds have been known to have hip and joint problems, try not to allow the pup to jump out of trucks, off high beds our run on concrete for the first year, and keep the weight down. If it wasn't for the shorter life span of the Mastiff I think I may have chosen the breed. Good Luck Here is what I ended up with .jpg) .JPG)

Looks like he has found a great family to serve and love. Those dogs have barks that will send people running before they even see his size.

EXCELLENT choice!
My Bull was about 175lbs. before he got put on a diet. He has been an excellent dog. Well behaved, very "chill", great with my toddler, and protective of my wife.
I got him because I travel sometimes for work and wanted some protection for my wife at home. There have been two occasions (both harmless - both times men) where he would not let a stranger in the house when she was there alone. Believe me - people take notice of a dog so big that when it barks, you can feel it.
The dog also took every bit of crap my kid could dish out. Only once did he whip his head around when my son yanked on his ear. I quickly taught him that was not allowed. From then on, every time my son bothered the dog - the dog got up, came over to me, and got right in my face. It's almost like he's telling on my son.
Mastiffs are VERY social dogs. Like you said, good luck getting more than 5 feet away from him when you're home. Literally, if we move from one chair to another in the same room, he'll get up, move three feet, and then lay back down.
I'm happy for you guys as I have a good idea of some of the joy you are about to experience.
