I'm getting ready change the rear pads myself for the first time and cannot find any tips in the shop talk section.  It has tips on front pads but not the rear.  Is there anything anywhere on the board that would help?

The process is exactly like the front...if you have bags...you need to take the left one off first.  Once you got a clear path, you are set to go.  Compress pads, remove outer screw, remove pin, remove pads.  reverse to install.

Clean the pistons as much as you can before you compress them back into the caliper.

Do you need to reuse the guage steel backing thingies, or are they part of the original pads?

Fred.

The new rear OEMs I just installed last month came with a new backing plate. I tossed the old one wiht the worn pads.

I cleaned these as good as could be done... then used compressed air to push the pistons out some - pistons
get contaminated all the way back to the seals or more... it is pretty easy to remove the caliper,
blow the pistons out all the way, clean everything and change the seals...
