You can download the Honda manual free from Dag, http://www.valkyrienorway.com/

What is even better than the manual... is the parts fiche, that will show you if you have all the parts, and actually how they would go on.

Here ya go....    Wink   http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=148567&category=MOTORCYCLES&make=HONDA&year=1999&fveh=3473

Cheers All, still want a workshop manual.....

Money well spent - but a word of recommendation - try and find the original, if you can. There are a few, that make copies of the original, and the copy I have is very good, but the pictures appear scanned, and aren't as good as the original. Now you can ask me why I have TWO manuals... Cheesy

I have the Clymer's as well, and will be keeping it on the bike, for quick reference if I ever need it. While not as in-depth as the shop manual, still good enough for quick references on the trail. And cheaper...

Just my $.02 worth.

Hope you have all the bag stuff - there's really not too much to it, the biggest thing I would think is the spacers on the rails, that might get misplaced. I did have to buy the bolt that goes into the foot peg mount. And I replaced all the bolts (stainless steel at Ace Hardware), rubbers and collars, as well as the rubber seals inside the bags themselves, because I wanted them "like new", and was only out about $100 altogether, if I recall. Oh yeah, I bought two Tourer hinges for that amount, too - I didn't like the I/S ones.

Guess I don't understand what you are asking.  Dag has the free downloadable Honda Manual, if you want a hard copy they are not rare by any means, go here http://www.directlineparts.com/byProduct.asp?prd=Manual%2FCatalog&str=2.

I can't answer for Recall, but I remember he had a big hassle with lenses in the past. He's in the UK, and it's very possible that by the time a manual from DL gets there, it will be twice or 3 times the cost. I've sent a few things over there, and that seems the way it is.

As for Dag's, it's a great service, but it ain't quite the same, especially depending on your printer. On most of the pictures, the resolution is such, that they aren't very clear when printed. And it's always the little, tiny close-up that you need, and they turn out the worst. I paid $35 for my "copy", and it's a very professional copy, but resolution is still pretty bad. Paid $40 for a used original, and there's just no comparison. I have the copy across the street, in the shop, and the original at home. The copy serves me for MOST things, but I find I run over to the house, when I need to see something I can't on the copy.

I'm sure Recall will pipe in, if I'm too far off-base.

I don't mind paying if it is the original workshop manual and in good condiction.. how good are the DL one's, I have looked at them but was not sure upon the quality.. and yes by the time it get's here it can work out quite pricey..recall

HDL, if I am correct, is the OEM (that be original Honda) manual.

I have one, and it gets a lot of use anymore.

This old farts remember just doesn't remember some of the details.

If it was me, I'd go to ACE hardware, and buy a bag of stainless bolts, nuts, spacers and etc.

Take an ACE bolt and replace a stock one.
Lay the stock one somewhere so ya won't be wondering if ya missed one.

PS:  Get 4 carriage bolts at ACE.

Do the fender mod, put the carriage bolt through from the inside.  Top off with an acorn nut.   Come on, be inventive.

ONLY TAKE ONE SIDE OFF AT A TIME OR HAVE A COUPLE OF HELPERS.

Now, hang the saddlebag support on the bike.   Eyeball it and shim as needed to get it straight up and down.

Hang the bag, same procedure.

When satisfied, bolt it up.    Just a tad over one pull of the ratchet.

Repeat on th other side.

When satisfied with the fit, tighten as needed.
