well lets break it down,,, takes 3 qts of oil at 15 bucs a quart,, thats 45 bucs right there,,, then there is the 5 dollar filter made by fram,,, now we ar at 50 bucs,,,plus a 3 dollar o-ring,,, that leave 11.95 cents for labor which the mechanic gets only 40% of... i would say thats a bargin.....
now if he did his own oil change it would cost 20 bucs at most,,,

Why do you need to change the oil, don't you have to add oil every 100 miles or so. After a 1000 miles it's been changed!

Not as much on the new ones. That was the rule of thumb during the war-AMC years.

It is not that hard, but it makes a mess. Why would you put an oil filter where they do. All that damn thing will do is make a mess every time I change it. Shortleg[Dave]

Change oil myself in all of my bikes.
20w50 Harley 360 oil is about 6 buck a quart.
5 Micron Harley Brand Filter the Black one is around 10 bucks.
my bike consistantly takes 3 1/2 quarts for the engine.
34 bucks plus tax and I change it every 3000 miles. \ Tranny takes one quart of Formula F and that is 7 Bucks, once every 20,000 miles.
Primary Chain Case and Clutch 38 ounces of Formula F , so you have to buy two quarts the first time
you change this , but you can dip into that second bottle 8 times to make the difference up.
Change the primary every 10,000 miles.
Believe it or not I don't care, my Harley FLHT 2007 model does not use any oil between changes.
Nada, not a Drop.
This new design of motor the 96 Cubic inch has a lot of advantages over the 88.
I like mine.
Course I like My Valkyrie and My Mean Streak and My KLR as well.
I just like about any motorcycle made.
So in answer to your question about 36 bucks for a Oil Change.
I run the Dino Oil to avoid the Dreaded Bearing Skate , that is believed to take place on the
main crank bearings with Synthetic Oil. These bearings are roller bearings. Not like a more
conventional sleeved bearing.
Proven Performance with Dino oil and Harley does not even like the brand of synthetic oil they sell but
people demanded a synthetic alternative.
Theoretical is all.

44.95 for the basic Harley Oil Change is a good Deal.
Go for that one.

Have you tried one of these? http://www.hardwareandtools.com/Plews-Edelmann-70-715-Lubrimatic-Oil-Filter-Wrench-6179493.htmlI'm going to send off for it, as the filter on the 103's are behind the oil cooler and it really is a pain to get at, unlike my shovel head that's sticks out like the Valkyrie only at the rear. .jpg)

I think I will start specializing in HD oil changes!! I'm just wondering why it should matter to you. Isn't this a Valk board and not an anti-Harley board?

My my.... do I sense some sensitivity about this subject. I don't think he was being anti-Harley... I think he was being more like pro-money..... rather than specializing in metric bike oil changes to make a buck he could work less and make more specializing in HD oil changes... or quit his day job and specialize in HD oil changes to earn a living (but even I know that would have to be a lot of oil changes). Besides, I think I detected some humor in his comment. As for this being a Valk board..... well, that's only the sign on the door to get you to come in to play... if you want 99.9% Valkyrie discussions, visit the Tech side.

Run by a Honda dealership and get a quote to change the oil in your Valk; you will be lucky to get out for under $100

A very good reason to do your own service, I have Harley friend that uses Mobil 1 15-50 and swears by it. Same as I use in my Valkyrie. He refuses to subscibe to the notion that It has to be Harley oil. I must agree, I don't use Honda oil. As far as I know neither company owns their own refinery. Hoser
