Early voting is so easy in TEXAS, I'll never vote on Tuesday again.  No lines, it was quick, easy, and just felt right.

It's not how you vote that counts. It's how the votes are counted.

+1 on Early Voting, the older Woman that take time to mind the votes get a kick out of me

aggravating them every year.

Dad 73 now, likes to vote on the day of the election to talk to all the folks there.

But It's early voting for me everytime.

I actually get excited when I am voting, it's a rush for me.

Love this country and love all of you"all.

Early voting and all other measures to make voting extra easy are a curse that will continue to drag the country down.

The easier we make it to vote, the more we dig down into the uninformed, uncommitted voters, those easily swayed by sound bites and promises.

There's a reason why one side of the political world is more excited about getting as many people as possible registered and voting.   Wink

This statement is so true....I remember the conversation that I had 16 years ago like it was yesterday that made me a believer.

I was a 37 year old "know it all" discussing politics with my then supervisor.  I was working on a project for the Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa, FL.  My supervisor was ex Special Forces and a no nonsense kind of guy....to be honest I couldn't stand the SOB at the time.  I mentioned to him that with the advent of the internet and with proper security, we could save the taxpayers a lot of money by simply registering voters, issuing them security credentials and have them vote electronically over the internet.  Win-Win easier on the taxpayers and the voters.

His response was almost the same....verbatim to the statement above.  As I got to know Fred better, I learned to respect a lot of his experiences and the insight he had to offer.  He didn't get up out of his chair slowly after a meeting because he was out of shape, it was because he had sacrificed a great deal of his body in Vietnam, Nicaragua and other theaters throughout the world.  I still would not have wanted to mess with him under any circumstances.  By the time I left that engagement, I had a great deal of respect for this gentleman.

Even though most everyone should have the right to exercise their vote, that vote should require some amount of initiative, and this initiative hopefully translates into a better educated voter.

You were doing good until you let your personal persuasions into the post.

Early voting is good.  But trust me... there are plenty of "uninformed, uncommitted voters, those easily swayed by sound bites and promises" on both sides of the fence.  I watch short memories, with no understanding of history, determined to vote the US into an even bigger hole than it is already.

And yes, I voted... and here's the pisser... costs me $30 to send my ballot back to Texas... and it will never even be opened unless the race is close enough that out of country ballots need to be counted.

Hmmm... I see where you're coming from Willow, and I do agree it shouldn't be TOO easy...

Easy = insecure... I do NOT want to see voting over the internet. That's just asking for corruption. I don't like electronic voting machines either, at least ones that don't have a paper trail.

But, I hafta disagree with you on damning early voting altogether. The voter still has to have the initiative to get up and ride their Valkyrie to the polling place, even if it's early and less crowded than on election day.

I disagree with automatically registering people to vote, that should be something you have to be proactive about.

And, I REALLY disagree with the current practice of certain campaigns PAYING people to go around and register people to vote!

I am sitting in the middle of the gulf of mexico......no polling locations here.... I am certain you would not want me to miss the opportunity to cast my ballot....I still say early voting is a good thing.

Mark I agree with you.  I am lukewarm on the early voting thing, but I am not opposed to it.

I spent about as much time on the road as anyone during my career with IBM.  I voted almost exclusively via absentee ballot, mine was one of the infamous or celebrated (depending on your perspective) absentee ballots which were counted in Florida during the 2000 election.  I am appalled that SE had to pay $30 dollars to exercise his right....definitely something wrong with that scenario.

I am certain that you would have taken the initiative to cast an absentee ballot had early voting not been an option, I am not sure that everyone would have been as dedicated.  Regardless, I am pleased that early voting was an option for you.

Early voting is a good thing....mostly, IMHO. For instance, why should
somebody have to make a decision between voting or attending a
funeral out of state...or going on an unexpected "vacation of a
lifetime". People that want to vote will vote, people that don't want
to vote won't do it no matter what. I vote early to get it over with.
I've usually decided how to vote long before election day. If I'm still
undecided on an issue or a candidate, I'll wait. (I still can't remember
how I vote in the Bush-Gore thing!!! Al got the most votes, George got
to be President. Abolish the 'electoral college'!!!!!)

Did not know I was going to be snowed in - away from my home and polling place back in 2000, you better believe I was pissed about not being able to get home. I had to leave home 30 min before the polls opened and would have voted early, but who knew this storm would dump 16 inches and 30mph winds.  Drifts closed the roads. Do I vote early now!  Damn straight! So screw you for thinking it is for the lazy. I study the candidates and have my mind made up before I vote.

SE that just not right, 35 bucks and then it is only opened for close elections!
