 Angry Angry

I just spoke to a guy who 5 days ago was riding west on I-10 heading to San Bernardino about 70 mph in the #2 lane (2nd over from median).  He was rearended by a cage and flew up on the hood, into the windshield and off the side of the car to slide down the freeway.

He said he really didn't know what happened and sort of woke up on the freeway looking at cars heading his way at 70 MPH and knew that was NOT right.  He pushed and rolled over to the median and looked back to see a tractor trailer go over the bike causing it to "explode".

He was lucky.  Broken foot, lots of abrasions (said that he looked in closet at the armored jacket before leaving, but decided to go with windbreaker) and many aches and pains.  Said his helmet was quite scratched up.  Don't know why the cager did not see him.  Texting???   tickedoff tickedoff

Here’s a question, do you feel safer at the front of the crowd, or in the back of the crowd???  Another words, would you be better off breaking the speed limit, or risk the possibility of being rear ended??

(I myself, I like being in front, that way if needed I can avoid any objects that might be in the road, dead animals, garbage, retread tires for examples)

The cager was the one who stopped and called 911.  There must have been some significant damage to the car.  Probably easy to make call if he already had phone out texting.  I asked the guy if he saw anything coming in the rear view mirror, but no.

I am a fanatic about watching behind me, but still every now and then on the freeway I will be surprised by a cage flying by me in the next lane

I ride the freeway just about every day on the way home, and without a doubt there is one spot that it will be at a dead stop or close to it. It seems that no matter what I am the last guy in line. I will often try to position my self in front of a semi. I usually make sure the driver knows I'm there. I would rather have another car run into the rear of the semi behind me then into a car behind me.

Spoke with the injured rider's dad who had a little more info on cause of the accident.  Turns out the guy was adjacent to an 18 wheeler and a car with a man and his wife were behind the truck and pulled around fast to pass the truck and went right into the biker just as his wife screamed.  He admitted everything to CHP and was crying at the scene.  so no texting, just not paying attention to the road.

A second 18 wheeler came by, hit the bike and crushed it and the bike caught fire.  Rider was really lucky.

WOWDAYUMMMMM!!!!!
I grew up in SoCal and left in '75.
Whenever we go back I'm a nervous wreck from the freeway driving.
Its frakin NASCAR there. I'm surprised he was able to crawl to the median.
