So Simple a caveman could understand:
Why did Bernie Madoff go to prison? To make it simple, he talked people into investing with him. Trouble was, he didn't invest their money. As time rolled on he simply took the money from the new investors to pay off the old investors. Finally there were too many old investors and not enough money from new investors coming in to keep the payments going.
Next thing you know Madoff is one of the most hated men in America and he is off to jail. Some of you know this. but not enough of you.
Madoff did to his investors what the government has been doing to us for over 70 years with Social Security. There is no meaningful difference between the two schemes, except that one was operated by a private individual who is now in jail, and the other is operated by politicians who enjoy perks, privileges and status in spite of their actions.
Do you need a side-by-side comparison here? Well here's a nifty little chart.
BERNIE MADOFF SOCIAL SECURITY Takes money from investors with the promise Takes money from wage earners with the promise that the money will be invested and made that the money will be invested in a "Trust Fund" available to them later. and made available later. Instead of investing the money Madoff spends Instead of depositing money in a Trust Fund the politicians it on nice homes in the Hamptons and yachts. use it for general spending and vote buying. When the time comes to pay the investors back When benefits for older investors become due the politicians Madoff simply uses some of the new funds from pay them with money taken from younger and newer wage newer investors to pay back the older investors. earners to pay the geezers.
When Madoff's scheme is discovered all hell breaks When Social Security runs out of money they simply loose. New investors won't give him any more cash. force the taxpayers to send them some more. Bernie Madoff is in jail. Politicians remain in Washington.

Down here in Florida we have the Florida turnpike and it was paid for by the government but paid back through tolls. Well when the road was made and this was approved it said in the original bill that the tolls would be taken down when the road was fully paid for well they announced the road paid for but the tolls will stay in place because of the maintenance. Tell me they are not crooks.

You're saying the are crooks for not taking the tolls down... but in reality, the thievery started much earlier than that. The government paid for the road using tax dollars taken from working citizens... then the working citizens have a pay a toll to pay for the turnpike... which they ALREADY paid for through taxes. Florida got duped TWICE with that one. Unless the road is built and owned by private investors, there is no reason to EVER have a toll.

funny that you mention this. just the other day i was talking to a co-worker and it dawned on me that had i been able to just put the amount of money social security took and place it into a CD, i'd be able to retire right now at age 44 !! this year alone, the government has taken $10,000 out of my pay check!! before i even get to see it!! now, by the time i'm 67, and it's time to retire, i know those monies won't be available, because some healthy lazy you know what, will be getting it because they know how to cheat the system.
well, at least now the republicans are in office. hopefully they'll keep up with spending the way reagan did.
as for the toll booths, did you know that a forgein company owns the rights to run the Illinoise toll roads!! what's up with that!! i don't know if it got passed, but the city of chicago was going to do the same thing with the parking meters.

here's another funn one, take the amount that you take home, devide it by the hours you work, and that's your true hourly wage!! multiply it my 2080, and that's what you make a year. (that is, unless you're a teacher then you've got to multiply it by a more realistic number likt 1000, or 900.... (kidding nitro!!))

Your right teachers multiply by less days, but try those days times 180 teenagers per day (30 of them per period times 6 periods) whose parents think their little child is wonderful and always right.

How true, In Florida we don't even try to hide it. We elect a Governor who ripped off the citizens of this country for so much the feds fined him 1.7 billion. Once he got caught he probably looked around and said, hey I can rip off the tax payer and not go to jail maybe I should run for office.

here is the best politician ever voted in, but really the voters are clueless and just blindly vote. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/03/jenny-oropeza-wins-califo_n_778113.htmldeceased California Democrat won re-election to the State Senate by a comfortable margin, besting Republican challenger John Stammreich, 58% to 36%. state's 28th Senate district, which includes parts of Long Beach, Los Angeles and the South Bay, the free handout illegal alien area.

Nice gripe, and as usual, no solution. So... what are YOU going to do? I've paid all my life into SS, like it or not. I have a guaranteed benefit. Are you suggesting that you are going to take it away from me, now that I am 61? See, your 'nifty chart' is bullsh*t. It fails to acknowledge those that have contributed. You fail to provide any plan, or even a suggestion, as to how you'd rid ourselves of this nasty SS. In the end, what you write is limp, pathetic, perhaps an attempt to be funny... but if an attempt to state that change is needed, pure crap.

Same thing with the bridges across New York City. Tolls were suppose to end when the bridges were paid for, now, part of the $6.00 toll (both ways on some bridges) goes to subsidize the the fares for the buses and trains. Take from Peter to pay Paul.....AGAIN. Part of my phone bill and my utility bill goes to subsidize the trains and busses as well. Paul loves me.......PHUK Paul and the system that created him!!!

I beg to differ, there is a solution mentioned. Jail time for those guilty of same thing Madoff was jailed for. Will it happen? No! But you, sir failed to see the point of the post. Get over yourself!

[/quote] The Republicans offered a plan, but the Libs wouldn't hear of it and then spun it to the people as Republicans wanting to take away Social Security. The plan was to ALLOW (not mandate) individuals to opt out of the current plan and "invest" in their own plan. Yeah, you run the risk of losing some cash, but I trust my ability to invest my money way more than some pin-head politician. I do not expect to recieve anything from SS and I have been paying in for 40+ years. By the tme I'm elligible for full benefits, they will have raised the retirement age to 72

If they gave me the option to opt out of SS now, at age 42 I would, and they could KEEP the $200K they have already taken from me.
Don't forget that it's REALLY more too. Because your Employer MATCHES your contribution. You never SEE that but your employer see's that as a cost of YOUR employment, so it's REALLY your money to begin with. When the SSA send you your statement, I don't think it reflects your employers contribution. It's simply a government propaganda paper.
I hold NO hope that the Republicans have actually learned their lesson. Until we get some real citizen legislature, we're going to keep getting what we have been getting. And if we keep voting like we've been voting we deserve it.
I refuse to vote out of fear any more. I fear the Democrats, I fear the Republicans a little less. I fear the Libertarians the least of all.

Glad Russ got the boot. I am disappointed that Harry Reid did not. It's amazing to me that California keeps reelecting Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer.
I am more and more disappointed with Americans almost every day it seems.

Me too. I've been following this since I was stationed out there. I keep hoping for the San Andreas to let go with the big one, and bring the Pacific Ocean 60 miles East, the whole West coast LA to San Francisco lost forever, and all those dirt-brain blue voters.
