Does anyone have any feedback on the differences between the Ultimate Vs the Mustang seats? It's time for a new saddle on the Valk. I had a custom upholstery job done on my weathered Corbins seats, but they're still a burn into an hour of riding. I'm leaning towards the Ultimate seats but it would be nice to get some feed from someone who has ridden on both.

I got both. Mustang on my solo and Big boy on my tourer. I really like them both. I just got back from a 4 day 1700 mile trip on the mustang and no problem. My next seat will probably be the Russell Day Long. I hear it's better than both of mine. JAT David

We have both,, My white interstate and Des's Valk both have ultimate. Noisy has a mustang, the ultimate's are noticably more comfortable. Mustang you sit on top of and Ultimate you sit in. Thats the best way i know to describe it. .....Kendall

I have had both on my I/S. Like Kendall said, you sit on top of the Mustang, and when you hit the brakes, you slide forward onto the gas tank, (well, I did) besides it cut into the undersides of my legs. Have had an Ultimate Big Boy for maybe.....7 years and it is 100 times better. I have done a 1000 mile day in it and was able to walk afterward. I have a King Boy on my Std paired with a Utopia back rest and that is even better yet. If I had the money, I would like to try a Russell. That's one Big IF.

Same experience with me. I had the Mustang for about 8 years and while it was a good seat, it was never a great seat. Had the same sliding issues.
I haven't had very much saddle time on the Ultimate, but I like the feeling of sitting in the seat as opposed to on the seat. Much more positive feel while riding.
The Mustang is much more economical and never had to worry about covering it in wet weather, whereas the Ultimate is not water proof and requires a cover in wet weather. Something to consider.

1 thing to remember here.
What fits everyone else's fancy, just might not fit you.
I've had Mustang, Corbin, Diamond, & a few others over the years.
Currently riding an Ultimate.
IMHO, get 1 that is built to fit your butt.
I'd save my $.01's & get a Russel Day Long.
As Forrest Gump would say: “That's all I have to say about that.”

Those that know me know that I’m a real cheap person, and if I can do it myself to save a buck, I will.
I’ve found that simply folding a towel, and putting it between my ass and that vinyl seat keeps me from sweating up a storm. Try it once; I don't think you need to spend hundreds of dollars on a pretty seat if you're not comfortable on it.

Had a Mustang for about 4 years. It was good, not great. Could do about 300 miles before I started to become uncomfortable. Mind you, I could still do 600 mile days, just half of it hurt. On hot days the darn seams would cut into your legs something fierce. Still better then OEM - IMO.
Bought an Ultimate King Big Boy (or whatever) at Inzane in Colorado. It was comfortable and I can agree with some of the above that it put you in the seat. I had to return it because of this though... it crowded the "front parts" to the point of after about 300 miles... it hurt. Back to the Mustang for 6 months.
Might I suggest a third option for you... the Russell Day Long. Yep, I know it is a pain in the butt (no pun) to have to go through a lot of steps (pictures, measurements, sending you seat, etc) and you have to wait, but trust me... it is SOOOO worth it. For about the same price as an Ultimate set-up (in my case a bit less), I finally found my thousand mile a day seat... In fact 1500 mile a day seat. I just did a Bun Burner Gold (1500mi in 24 hours) back in September. Tired as hell, but my arse was in comfort the entire time... no problems whatsoever.
After owning all three (Mustang, Ultimate & Russell), I am sold... Good luck on your search for the best seat out there for you.

Bought an Ultimate seat from the classifieds of this forum. The seat was brand new so a break-in period was required. I am currently about 1300 miles into the break-in and so far so good. The only issue I have is that the seat moves you about an inch forward and for some reason my right shoulder starts screaming after a couple of hours. It could be my old age but I did not have that problem with the stock seat. I think Ultimate gives you a two week trial period to try the seats so if you have the time to ride you have nothing to lose. I had a Russell seat on my sport tourer that was not built to my specs (on the bike when I bought it) and it was terrible. If you decide to go Russell make sure to have one built to your specs.

I've had OEM, Corbin, Mustang, Ultimate and now a Russell Day-Long is on MAGNUM. Day-Longs are appropriately named IMO.

Last Sept I slabbed it from San Jose CA to Kenosha WI about 2200 miles in 4 days on a Ultimate Bigboy. Thats 4 days of over 500 miles each with no major gripes.

I like sheepskin on my seats. They are a problem when they get wet though. They breathe and cushion. I use one over my Ultimate.

Had a Mustang, sold it & bought an Ultimate. To be fair the Mustang was used, broken in by someone else's butt but...... it had the same "one hour burn" that you describe with your Corbin. Been very happy with the Ultimate! Des himself changing the seat out at Bike Week '07. BTW, a surprisingly comfy low cost alternative is the 2000 up stock Honda seat. The more time I ride the '99 with one of them the more I'm impressed. But it just might be me, everyone is different!

I'm with you. I find the 2001 OEM saddle at least as comfortable as my Ultimate Lowboy, but the Ultimate is prettier so it's the one that stays on the bike.
