Any one with a belly tank ever had the fuel tank go out? Mine did and I'm not sure which road to take. Get a fuel pump and install or just buy a new belly tank so I don't have to mess with it?
Anyone with experience and an answer would be nice.
Have a great weekend everyone.[/color]

There's no reason to replace the tank. Contact Roger at R & M, and he can set you up with a new fuel pump. If memory serves, early versions had a fuel pump that was not as reliable as desired. Terry

I'm not at the shop to check the part number but I got my replacement at Napa. I left Ga. last year on a 2 week trip out west and it died in Oregon. I carried the old one in and they handed me a new one right away. Works fine. .JPG)

BTDT. Last November as a matter of fact. The pump Roger uses is heat sensitive and Roger modifies them by attaching a heat sink on the back side that will actually contact the belly tank and transfer the heat to it. Don't go to the parts store looking for a pump. You'll end up buying a pump AND a fuel pressure regulator. The Purolator/Facet has only 1-2psi. The electric pumps in the parts store are higher than that and will overpower and flood the carbs.

I am having my pump stop occasionally so I am going to replace just the pump. I bought it from Napa auto parts and there are many look a like pumps but this one is different. It has a check valve and a anti siphon valve which most do not have. I have used these pumps on many cars and not had a problem they are made by purolator and you can get one right from them. They are a Facet fuel pump a division of Purolator the Facet number is 40178 and is the number that Napa goes by. The price was about 70.00. Roger may consider sending you one under warranty or you can buy one from him, I think he even sells them cheaper. He said that the were a few that were causing problems. if you want to replace your whole tank I will buy the used one from you of course at a reduced price . I haven't replaced mine yet but it is not hard and make sure you get a new prefilter for it too. If you go to say a advanced auto parts and pick up a pump from them it is a Chinese knock off and not a Facet although they look identical I was considering the same but did some research. http://www.facet-purolator.com/index.php They also have different pressure ranges but not the check valves which prevent the dreaded hydro lock. Whats interesting the part number for this pump is not in the Purolator catalog you either have to ask Roger or go to Purolater.

As others have suggested, go directly to the source; don't go through the hassle of trying to retrofit a pump from your local auto parts store. Google "R & M Works" for contact info - and you'll get the most current version they sell specifically designed for their belly tanks. I have no affiliation - just a satisfied customer. Terry

To further add to my previous post, The pump I bought at Napa is a Facet pump, Identical part and part number as the original belly tank pump I got from Roger, and don't see any difference. Roger may have made improvements lately but I've had 2 of my tanks since his inception. My fuel pressure guage reads the same, It bolts on and connects the same, and I have not had any problems. I'm not trying to take any business from Roger, as I have 3 of his tanks on my bikes, But I have 1 Napa replacement pump that has "pumped" out over 40k miles and still ticking. The pump I replaced in Oregon had over 80k on it . YMMV.... .JPG)
