As a vet, as many of you are, when I think back to those years I'm thankful my life turned out as it did. Today in church, the pastor asked all vets to stand and be recognized. When we did, some old, some just back from the mid-east, the whole congregation started to applaud and someone started singing God Bless America. It started to get to me emotionally, but I was able to control myself until this little grey haired lady came up to me. She came all the way from the front to the back where I was seated, took her hanky and wiped away a tear from my eye and then gave me a big hug while saying "thank you, thank you, thank you." That did it, couldn't hold back any longer and felt like a fool. A couple older gents behind me just reached up and squeezed my shoulders, telling me "it's OK buddy."  I later learned that little lady picks out a different vet each Veteran's Day and Memorial Day and does that to them. She has attended there over 20 yrs. and I'm told she has just about hugged all of them. I'm told she lost her husband in Germany when they were both in their early 20's, back during WWII. She never remarried, never had any children. For what she's done, I plan to thank her next week.

John,
She's done as much, and had as much heart break as any one of us.
Thank her, and hug her once for me, please.
Thank you to all vets, and current men and women who serve.
God Bless the Republic.

Thats a great story. I have seen many of grown men brought to tears of gratitude for the men and women who fought for our freedom and I am one. Just did it. Smiley and I'm not ashamed of it. I have had many life changing experiences in honoring our veterans.

We all have many things to be
thankful for, and so many have
given so much for us to have them
