is it antifreeze????????
«
on:

just got back from a weekend trip and on the top of the engine on the right hand side i noticed a dried whitish with a slight green tint substance.
i see nothing dripping, have noticed no noticible odor wondering what it might be.
i've cleaned it off and will go for a ride tomorrow to see if it returns.
anyone else have this issue?

bg....sounds like the clamp on the hose to the thermostat is loose.

unless you changed your coolant type, then the greenish tint is a clue that it's a leak w/antifreeze in it.
Snugging the hose clamp is the first step....don't gorilla-torque it though.

the overflow hose on top looks fine. i can see a much larger radiator hose on the back side of the radiator when i look through the pod that looks really suspect.
the screw to tighten the clamp is facing away from me and pointing downward.
after 10 years it looks like i need a new hose.
is it easily changed or a job for the service dept?
normally when i pick up a wrench my friends all say "stop, drop the wrench and slowly step away from the bike".

since no one else piped in yet, you should be able to just try tightening the clamp. I haven't had the pleasure to have to do this yet, but from what I remember some have had to loosen the radiator and swing it out a little to get a flexible extension on this clamp. On the I/S, this most likely involves removing the pods as a minimum to access the radiator mounts.
Basic hand tools, creativity, and patience and should not involve an expensive trip to the dealer.
Hopefully others with first-hand experience will chime in. Good luck and make sure you let us know how it works out.

i loosened the pod and was able to get a revolution or two on the clamp.
took it for a short ride around the sub and didn't see any leak.
i'll check it again tomorrow with a longer ride.
sure hope this takes care of the problem.
thanks
