Where do you shop

I had a customer call this morning and said she bought a part for her machine off the internet. She said it didn't fit properly and wanted to know if I knew what it would take or had the part that was missing. She said she saw the kit when she was in our store (6 months ago), but knew she could get it cheaper elsewhere. Now she has the cahunas to call and ask if I have the peices she needs to make it work.
This brings up a story of someone who bought something at a big box store, took it home was going to take it apart and broke it. He took it back to the big box store, and they told him too bad. He threw a fit, got reimbursed for his troubles and kept his toy. On his way home he stopped by his local toy store, and asked them to fix his toy. Because they specialize in that one thing they knew how to fix it. Thing is eventually this small toy shop will close because everyone buys at the big box place (or on the internet), an then complain when the guy down the street is out of business.
I always try to by locally (in my neighborhood, or at least in my own town). I would rather shop at the neighborhood grocery store, autoparts store, even the mom and pop diner. Remember these people are your neighbors. Most often they will make you pretty good deal anyhow.

Couldn't agree more. I try to do the same thing in my job.
Local industrial bearing, plumbing and electrical businesses usually deliver for free too. That's a big plus when I'm "waist deep in alligators" at work trying to repair equipment and don't have time to stop and pickup parts.
When I bought our plant plasma cutter I got a price for what I wanted on Amazon. Then called our local welding supply house and told them the price I had found. They met the price and I didn't have any shipping to pay.
