I know that the intent of this board is to stay motorcycle related, but as we all know, the topics here in the sandbox cover just about everything.

I frequent many forums/boards and one of my favorite is a college football forum. There they have a section dedicated to cooking, recipes, drinks, favorite restaurants/dives, etc. That page gets a ton of hits.

As many people as we have here who loooove to cook, eat, party and ride their motorcycles to destination restaurants/dives, I think it might be a hit. We could call it "Grillin & Chillin", "The Cruiser Grill" or something like that. It could go along side the "General and "Tech" boards.

Among many different, I enjoy cooking and can (IMHO) lay down some grub that will make you want to slap-yer-grandpappy!

It's just a thought. What do ya'll think about something like this????  uglystupid2

However, The distiction between what would go on that new board and what should go here in the sandbox seems vague.  We cant even keep Tech and General seperated.....I think it would just be two general boards and make it harder to track a specific posts...JMHO

Your right, but "generally" the general board stays general and the "Tech" board stays techy.

This board is like a box of chocolates......you never know what yer gonna get!

cooldude I like the idea!

I'd especially love to try some recipes from some of our Louisiana members.

Since  I LOVE Cajun food!

And the idea of sharing great places to eat on the road is a good one.

Goodness knows this bunch likes to eat!

I'm not sure about the logistics of another section to the board to accomplish this.

But, if enough people think that sharing this is a good idea maybe something could be worked out.

I wish there was a board for all the political crap so I don't have to wade through all of it.  Maybe a board for guns, too...not that I have anything against guns as I have a few of my own...but I come here to read about motorcycles, motorcycle stuff, and riding, etc.

Then again, if we remove politics and guns, this board wouldn't get much traffic.  crazy2

The problem is, one guy wants a "ride to eat board", one guy wants a "Gun" board, one guy wants a "Politics" board, one guy wants an "off topic" board....and it just ends up being endless.  Then, you end up with gun topics on the ride to eat board, because a couple of guys just LIKE the ride to eat board, and the people that hang out there.  But, a couple of people on the ride to eat board don't like guns and get pissed at the staff.  And its ALWAYS our fault.

I'm honestly open to new ideas and adding addition boards, but it has to make sense, and there has to be participation.  Two people interested in food does not make a food board no matter how passionate they are about food.  Maybe if there were some threads started along the lines of the subject you are suggesting, and there is a good response from other members, we could consider it.  Convince me.

I've also seen requests for an accessory forum.  Yet, I've seen very few threads that would fit in that topic.

3/4's of our staff will be all in one location this weekend and this will definitely be a topic for discussion.  I can't promise anything tho.

Exactly my point.  Everyone wants it THEIR way.

One person comes here to read the guns posts, one guys comes to argue about politics, and then yet another guy really just wants to talk about Motorcycles.  And some folks enjoy the diversity of topics and information. (myself included)

Personally, I would delete every political post I saw if I thought I could get away with it.  But that's just me.

I't was just a though and the thought was, food goes with this group like gravy goes with biscuits! Ooops, there I go with the food thing again  Grin!

BTW. My sausage gravy ain't bad  cooldude

I say post your food stuff right on the general board.  It'll get hits.

I post about almost everything.  If I start a new thread though, I try ot be clear in the title what it's about... so people can ignore it if'n they want to.

As the moderator of a board whose political diatribes usually tend towards the highly educated but nevertheless diabolical side of "clever", I wholeheartedly concur with your views...

You're right...and more importantly, you're the moderator. cooldude  I really have no problems with the board as it is...I even like the new format.   Grin  Like mentioned above, I just skip the stuff I'm not interested in...and I have to admit that I do occasionally check out a political thread here or there to see what kind of paranoia and liberal/conservative blame game is running rampant.  uglystupid2  Some if it is actually quite entertaining, even if I do choose to remain silent on such topics.

There are political boards, there are gun boards along with just about any type of board you may be interested in...However this IS A MOTORCYCLE board, the best motorcycle board in my opinion. Oh by the way, great job Scott! I am now used to it cooldude Then again, if one does not care for a topic posted in the general board, one could choose not to view it. I see both points of view.

hey, i even agree with Scott on this one....and the Rune board...which i Administrate....DOES have a
bunch of those "other" forums. LOTS of em'. and...it gets harder to Moderate...and ...still has half the junk folks don't want to see....in the wrong areas. Many folks just keep posting the "junk" in the General Forum...cause they know...that's where MOST folks hang out. So you still get all that other "stuff"...that should have gone in another area. Or, you get people posting the SAME post...in multiple forums....to "make sure it gets seen by all".

Etc, etc. There are some advantages of course to having other forums....but...there are some disadvantages too. but no two ways about it, it winds up being MORE work for Scott and the other Staff here......

My humble opinon, you want a food "section" start one. The post here will go forever so you start a thread named recipes and it will be here forever. you got a new recipe you just post in that thread. You want to read that, you search for your thread and go to it.

I've been thinking about starting a thread named Kansas discussion just for Kansas riders info and communication. That's like starting another group but its not.

MHO (gee I hope 3/4 of staff doesn't hurt me this weekend.)

Not to be a disagreeable sort, but maybe there would be a benefit to an "Off Topic" forum.
After all, those of us who frequent here do share a common bond-our Valks.
What better place to share ideas and positive experiences than a forum made up of those with whom we have common interests?
I read "political" forums on several othe bike forums and have to agree that they get out of hand real quick and do nothing to further the cause. Am not for that.
Just my 2 cents.

While I can appreciate the special interest groups here, to me the variety of topics gives me insight on the personalities here.  That helps me when I meet the members.  I'll be willing to bet that person to person talks, after tire kicking,  includes much of the same subjects discussed here.

What was that old saying:  "A camel is a horse that was designed by a committee."

Let's not go there.

Just a thought. Is there a way to have a link to a map with travel info that was limited to resturants, hotel/motel, and bike shops or sevice centers. That way if someone has had a good experience somewhere along the road they could mark it on the map for others to see when planning their trip.

How about 3 boards.... General (MC Related) Board ,    Technical (MC Related) Board.... and the catch all OFF TOPIC Board (for guns, politics, recipes...etc.    I also think the Classified Board would do better on this message board format as well instead of where it is at (JMO).

Here's what I like about this board over the previous iteration; if I see a topic I'm interested in, I click on it and then I see the entire thread! If I see a topic or a poster that I wouldn't usually read, I pass it up! It's only one line and not a mile long thread that I have to wade through. If all non tech topics are on the general board, I never miss a topic that I want to read about.

I think the board is perfect this way Scott. Really!  cooldude
