I sold my 2000 Shadow ACE Deluxe 750 this afternoon and am officially looking for a Valkyrie. Right now, its just looking, as I'm waiting for an estate to be settled so I have enough for the purchase. Hopefully, this will happen before Thanksgiving, but it could be later since it all depends on lawyers and judges Lips Sealed.

I'm wanting to keep it at no more than $6500, since that will allow me to pay cash and have no payments. I simply will not allow myself to have any payments on this bike.

I've been keeping my eye on Cycle Trader and e-bay and it seems that my goal should be obtainable. Wish me luck, folks! cooldude

Also watch this website as we post bikes for sale that we have seen, and keep an eye on Craigslist and Auto/RV for good deals.

Hope you find the Valk you're looking for ... The Ace also is a nice ride for a smaller bike... Phil is going to love it.

If you find one in Sarasota/Bradenton/Venice/Pt. Charlotte, Fl-give a holler.
I'd be happy to check it out for you.
There were one or two on the sarasota craigslist a while back.
Don't be in a rush to get one-check it out first.

Good news!!!

The Shadow ACE sold Saturday to the first couple that came to look at it!. That's right - a couple. They wanted a longer wheelbase bike than their '84 Honda, so that they weren't jammed up against each other when they rode.

Now there's an empty spot in the carport and an urgent need (on my part anyway, not necessarily my wife's) to fill it with my first Valk.

Would you believe what just came on the Cycle Trader search today?

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2001-Honda-Valkyrie-97691116

That's right - its right here in my hometown of Fayetteville, TN!!

Now the bad news - I think the price is a tad high for a Standard. It does have a windshield, sissy bar and luggage rack (judging from the on-line pics - dealership is closed today), but no bags or floorboards, no light bar, no highway pegs and no driver backrest. Mileage is very low and there may be some problems connected with that, although I am at a loss as to how that can be detected.

I doubt very much that this bike will come home with me due to lack of accessories I consider necessities, but, should I buy another one with low miles, what indications should I look for to avoid the most obvious problems? Rust in the gas tank? Dry rotted tires? Those two I can handle. I know that old gas can be a problem if the bike has sat for an extended period.

Generally, what service should I expect to have to perform on an older bike that may have been sitting awhile? Thanks in advance for the advice.

It depends.  62 sounds about a grand high too me, even with the low miles.  And even with the low miles, if it's been riden at least on a simi-regular basis, it's probably good to go.  However, if it's been sitting for awhile, there might be problems with dried up vacuum lines and such, carbs will need cleaning.  The low speed needles get clogged with old gas if the chubby chick sets too long.  You might get away with just a couple cans of SeaFoam (or your favorite brand of F/I-Carb cleaner) in a tank of gas or two.   Check tires for rot.....how old are the tires anyway?  Check the date stamp on them.  At that low miles, things like the splines and u-joints should be good.  Try to get them to come down about 500 bucks and throw in a new set of tires.  Also have them relube the splines while they're in there and replace the three o-rings.

btw.....I paid 52 for my standard a little over 2 1/2 years ago. However, one thing about the standards is that you can accessorize 'em the way you want to be with the accessories that you want.  It might cost ya more in the long run, but your gonna feed the addiction like the rest of us anyway.   Grin

Check Elk River Powersports there in Fayetteville. They had a nice low mileage 2003 standard
they were asking 5800.00 for but I am pretty sure they told my brother they would take
5500.00.  It's black and has about 6000 miles on it. Very nice.

The price you pay for a Valk is directly compared by the "wanting" factor of a Valk.  The Valk is a very special bike!  Unless you really studied the Valkyrie these bikes with very low mileage need to checked out by someone having knowlege of such.  Carbs a little rough? Don't waste time like I did a couple years ago with so called carb cleaners, take it in and have the carbs cleaned, $600 later......

Hey Bama! I tried to send a message, but it said connection problems. There is a phone number in that ad and I'm sure that guy hasn't hurt that bike much at 23,000 miles. I've been avoiding going up to look at it, because if I did I know that I'd bring it home with me. Good Luck!

The Valk here in Fayetteville sold to a fellow in Texas. It was being loaded on a truck as I was looking at the ad over the weekend.

Got my money all lined up and have been making phone calls to Valk owners I've found on-line.

I've found two bikes  - a '98 Standard and a '98 Touring. Both have about 35,000 miles, new tires, windshields, and backrests. The Standard has had LeatherLyke bags added and is a dark-side bike. The Touring has a set of Dunlop Elite 3 tires and has been owner serviced for the past 5-6 years. The owners of both bikes seem very informed about their bikes and have owned them for 5-6 years. The Standard is yellow and cream and the Touring is burgundy and cream. I like both color schemes equally well. The Standard owner has just decided to sell and hasn't researched a price yet, but is leaning toward the $7500.00 neighborhood. The Touring owner is looking to clear $7000.00, but I feel he'd take $6750.00.

I'm leaning toward one of the bikes without seeing them, yet, but I'll hold my preference so as not to skew any responses from y'all.

As always, advice and opinions welcome.

I was in Jim Walker,in Daytona Beach, yesterday.
They have 2 Valks for sale.
One is a 98 Blue/Cream Standard, 55,000 miles. Cal thought it was about $5,500 OBO. Sharp looking bike.
The other is a 99 Black Tourer with a Givi Trunk. Not sure of the mileage. They had it for $7,995 last week, tyesterday it was $6,495.
If interested contact Cal Miller at 386 761-2411

Sounds like good bikes, but in todays market, you should be able to get for at least $1000 less than asked.

With winter coming on, better deals will be available.  Have patience.  Try to get one with as much bling as possible.  It will not cost much more, and it costs a lot to put it on!

I know where there is a 2002 black std. w/14K miles on it, for $5,500.  Windshield and soft bags.  1,200 mi on tires.  Course, you would have to come to Colorado to get it.  Freeze your you know what off this time of year.

+1 on that .... you can always take the bling off if you don't like it.
