Ron N from the AZ board posted this video to raise interest in his trip next month. This road is in Eastern AZ and use to be numbered RT666. It became known as the Devil's Highway. A petition went before the state legislature to change it and it's now 191 but it's still the Devil's Highway to us. Over 600 turns in 30 miles and an elevation change from about 2000 to 8300'. You go from high desert to alpine forests.

Used to love to ride it. I was born in AZ. A quick stop by the copper mines followed by lunch in Hannigans Medow

Rode it last year. Great ride... By far the best ride in AZ if you like twisties....Just watch for some wildlife, and bring warm clothes. It gets chilli going up the hill. We started out at the bottom of the hill with cool vests on and there was sleet at Hannigans Medow.

I believe there's only 1 or 2 rooms left, check the Az board on this.

Escape to the mountains for the 3rd Annual R&R (Rik & Ron OR Rest & Relaxation) Road Trip! May 15th and 16th

We will depart from Mesa Friday morning May 15th and head east thru Globe proceeding to Safford. From Safford we will ride north on the infamous Route 191. We'll ride thru Clifton and see one of the biggest open pit mines and then the fun begins. Route 191 has been referred to as Arizona's Deals Gap. This is a twisty, curvy road that climbs in elevation through some very breathtaking scenery until hitting the tall Ponderosa pines. We then will make a stop at Hannagan’s Meadow at 8,000 feet + where the temp will be nice and cool and there is frequently a chance of rain so we recommend you come prepared.

We will leave Hannigan’s Meadow, proceed thru Alpine (8300'), and then ride north to Springerville where we will spend the night at Best Value Inn. Dinner will be at the original Los Dos Molino's for some spicy New Mexican cuisine. Down the street from Best Value Inn is Booga Reds restaurant and bar for anyone wishing a nightcap.

On Saturday, we are planning a leisurely breakfast and then rolling back down the hill through the Salt River Canyon and into Globe for GREEN CHILE!!! From there back to Mesa and home. Approx 270 miles day one and 225 day two. A total of 500 miles through some of Arizonans most scenic country and cool to boot!

Please make you own motel reservations. See details below:
Best Value Inn‎
136 W Main St, Springerville, AZ‎ 85938
(928) 333-2655‎

Confirmation # 5741 - Reserved under name Beimfohr
Rate $68.88 + Tax

There is a block of 5 rooms being held under the name Beimfohr. Rooms include two queen size beds if you chose to double-up. First come first serve!-- There is a power plant in the area that is being worked on and all the motels have limited rooms available. Rik did a great job obtaining these rooms for our annual trip.

Friday May 15th, kick stands up at 8:00 am at the gas station. It’s a Shell station, I think, on the SW corner of Gilbert and Southern in Mesa. Have breakfast beforehand so you can be ready to ride as we won't stop for food until Safford/Clifton.

Please sign up here and let me know if you reserved a room.

Thanks Ron
