Author Topic: electronic flasher relay  (Read 1575 times)

Hello,

I have just installed front and rear turnsignal LED's and now have the usual
issues since changing the fronts.

What Electronic flasher unit is my best option? I need something tried and tested as the install
has so far fought me all the way and I want it working and reliable, once and for all.

Any advice appreciated.

Just to clarify. This will stop the fast flashing and solve the issue with the turnsignal indicator light in the top of the headlight?

It won't help with the crossfeed through the single indicator.  The Genesis Metric Cruise Diode Kit will though.  http://www.customdynamics.com/loadequalizer.htm  You will need some soldering skills to install it.  I did it and it's not that hard.

crap. I dont suppose anyone knows the specs of the diode required do they?

I can go down the local Jaycar and pick them up. I am in Australia and dont really want to wait a week or more for it to arrive.

When I did mine I used 1N4001's and they work fine. Whilst you are at it take the rubber boot out of the head light shell that houses the warning light and turn it round 180 degrees before you put it back. Makes it easier to see as the bulb is then pointing more towards you. Whilst you are doing the diodes do the Rattlebars mod to make them brighter too. Link the diagram is 2/3 down the page.

If you're making up your own diode kit here's what you need to do.  First, the signal indicator has only two wires.  Each wire is a lead from each side's turn signals.  When one of the turn signals is activated, the indicator uses the other lead as a ground.  You will have to cut the leads to the indicator.  Just make sure you leave several inches to work with.  Solder the diodes' input wires to the leads from the wiring harness.  Then solder the diodes output wires together and then to one of the wires from the indicator.  Make sure you install heat shrink over the wires BEFORE you do any soldering.  Slide the heat shrink over the bares wires and melt it in place.  Finally, solder a wire to the other indicator wire and attach it to either a body ground or a wiring harness ground.  I used one of the headlight shell bolts.  When I bought my diodes, I bought ones more than capable of carrying the load cause the wires were thicker and easier to work with using my rudimentary soldering skills.
