I love a challenge,...yeah I'm a handicapped Valk rider. I used to be pretty good in the Slow Races, but I haven't had much time this year to practice.

I once got into an heated arguement with "Craig Vetter" about the fact that we riders are not going to go back to riding small 175/250cc bikes as most of us have been riding larger and larger bikes in the past few decades.
Craig is quite passionate about presereving our nations oil reserves and freeing ourselves from the OPEC stranglehold. He has a real point as we tend to be wastfull and glutoness.

So I propose that we have an MPG challenge. In two classes, one for Standard/Tourer tanks and another for IS tanks (and excluding belly tank equipped Valks). I have been getting some unbelievable MPG with my Rat Rod Valk and I have experienced from the 20s to the 40s on my Interstate. I know we can prove that our bikes can be fun as well as economical as well.

Anyone up for this CHALLENGE!

And, Hoser can!  I can ride right beside him, and NEVER do as good.  Hoser's bike is great on mpg, and very good on hp too!

I will pass on the contest.  Twisting the throttle is TOO much fun!

I don't believe in going slow either.

I purpose that we all meet up at the gas station closest to the entrance to Shanty Creek Resort (between SC and downtown Bellaire). And I will set up a ride through some of the twisties south of Bellaire, through the Leelanau Peninsula and on to "Pierce Stocking Drive State Park", and back.

This is a fun Challenge, and it may get you some "bragging rights".

MP is right, I'd probly blow it halfway through on a downshift and fast exit on some sweeper.   Grin hoser (Boy, it's cold up your way MP.  Saw your weather bar on your post.)

I'm betting that most Valks get better MPG than we give them credit for.
I've seen what I consider crap for mileage on my I/S and great mileage on my 98. Sure weight has an effect as well as excessive throttle twisting will ruin your MPG.
Realistic driving measures and proper tire pressures can make most Valks as least as good as todays HDs.

And,...it's all about the ride. I gaurantee that those who haven't traveled the proposed route,...well your in for a surprise.

Ask hoser about this.  My car, pulling an enclosed trailer with another Valkyrie inside, can get better mileage than a Valkyrie!  Hoser has been there.  I get 28-30 mpg with my car doing this.  Got that from ND to FL and back last winter.  If I push my Valk, I cannot get that!

Well, I normally get 25-29 here around town.  Up in the mountains of Colorado, I was lucky to get 22, sometimes got 20, pulling that trailer.
The ride wasn't much different, but the mileage sure was.

The best I have ever got is 47.2  And that my freinds is great! But I don't think I ever got over 45 and stayed in 5th gear the whole time.  A beautiful morning Ridin the Blue Ridge Parkway. If I'm realy having fun, keeping the throttle open the R's up an gears shift'n she'll get down in the low 20's.
