Hey Jabba,

Just caught this thread about your dog. Sad
Sure hope she is doing better and will recover fully without suffering too much!  Smiley Dogs (pets in general - I have a cat I am absolutely crazy about) are so great because they can sense what you need, and give it to you unconditionally! cooldude My daughter-in-law is a Vet, and she keeps telling me about the amazing ability to heal that dogs have!

I've been away from the board for about a while tied up with family stuff. We are finally down in FL for the winter. Again, best of vibes, thoughts, and prayers my friend! I'm sure Bailey will be fine. Besides, she is German, so am I, and we're tough to kill! Grin

Bailey has improved a lot.  She's eating now, and drinking.  Her labs are all a lot better.  But... she still has a lot of perotinitis in her abdomen.  Doc thinks GI tract still might be leaking somewhere.  Thinking about going in and looking again.

Anyone want to buy a nice 1999 IS so I can pay the cursed vet bill?

Sell yourself to do tune ups or bike repairs for vet bill donations or offer to work for the VET for free what ever he needs for 4 or 6 hours a week , But dam it man don't sell your toy. Throw $200.00 down for the vet bill and tell him you will be in every payday rain or shine to hand him another $50 or what ever amount you can afford and expect to tack on a little interest.

i dont know if this idea will help but earlier this year i was hit with two vet bills, one for an op on my cat and one for an op on one of my dogs.It totalled out at around $3500.00,so i paid it with a credit card and then i applied for another card that offered a 0% interest rate on card ballance transfers,so i transferred the $3500.00 and paid it at $350.00 a month.

My biggest ever vet bill was $13000.00 for a horse that ate a plastic bag  Cry

id also go with the offer of doing some work on peoples valks, oil changes, washing polishing etc.theres a lot of support on this site for you and bailey cooldude

The selling the IS was mostly a joke.  I'll get the vet paid.  She's gonna take installments from me.

The good news is... Bailey has been eating, and drinking, and now we're operating under the theory that there is NOT in GI tract leak, and everything s OK.  The infection is still worse than the vet expected, but it seems to be clearing up.

I think the vet is going to pull her abdominal drain any time now...

She has been letting Bailey have free run of the clinic for a few days, free to visit the clients and all the staff.  I guess she doesn't act like a dog that is as sick as she has been.

Hopefully she'll be coming home by the end of the week, or maybe even thursday.

Jabba - good GREAT news!!!!

As an animal lover (currently 4 dogs, 2 cats, 8 birds, 2 turtles), I know how it is - We lost a bloodhound this year to gastric torsion, noticed the bloating at 11:00 pm, he was put down by 1:00. 4 to 6 grand, and a 30% chance of survival. Just couldn't take those odds. We now have another bloodhound, of course a rescue, and he has almost the exact personality that Tank did. It's wierd!

Anyway, hopes that everything continues on the path to recovery! Always good to hear. And the bills won't seem like anything, when it's all said and done.

For those of you following my Dog Bailey's progress here is an update.

She has had little to no appetite since the surgery.  She has not had a bowel movement.  They did a tracer study thru her GI tract, and found a kink... or something in her intestine, and decided that yet another exploratory surgery was needed.  The Vet, while already having waived over $1200 in fees for me, waived another $1000 for this one, and committed to doing everything for a flat fee of $3200.   Shocked

The surgery yesterday went well.  Everything looked good.  All her labs were good.  There was a little kink in her intestine, and they blamed the lack of intestinal motility on something called illius.  It's when the intestines get paralyzed by the anesthesia for a period of days...  Well, the doc squeezed the poop from her colon, and was happy to report that it looked as good as poop can look.  The peritonitis is mostly resolved.

So now we just need to get her eating.  I guess she had 2 craps after the surgery, so the Vet thinks that by her going in and stimulating all her intestines and stuff that they have started to mobilize again, and is hopeful that her appetite will return, and she will start to eat, and gain some weight back.  She's lost 13 lbs.  From 73 to 60.

The plan is for her to come home on Monday.

We're almost there guys... thanks for all the support.

Thats good news for sure. the bills suck but its when we choose to be dog owners its our responsibility to do everything we can within reason. Several times in the past I can say if I or the vet would have known how far these things would go, without a guaranty ,I may have gone another route . Sounds like you went the right way. Now put the Gorilla Glue way up on the top shelf ! Give your girl some love'n .

Yeah... she's home and seems to be improving.

Not a lot of appetite, but it seems to be getting better.  She's picking at dogfood, but is starting to eat the stuff we've been cooking for her.

She's on a regimen of pills that is 8 in the AM, 4 mid day, and 8 more at night.  She'll be running out of most of those very soon.

She picked up about 1 lb since her lightest weight.  Her energy is coming back, and I have witnessed a poop.

I think she's gonna be OK.

She has a follow up vet appointment next monday.

I'll get a new pic of her and post it.

Thanks again everyone.  It was a trying couple weeks for us.  And the bill sort of blew our vacation plans for the year, unless something drastically good happens like a KILLER year end bonus, or my personal, moonlighting, commissioning firm getting some work.

Jabba,

I am so happy to hear that Bailey is doing better.  cooldude

I guess all those good vibes and prayers helped. That and the fact you seem to have a very good, caring, and compassionate Vet there. I watched my Daughter-in-law go through 4 years of Vet school. The work load was tremendous, and she does the same at times and waives part of the fee. I've never met a Vet that was in it for the money alone - all are great animal lovers who realize how important our animal family members are to all of us. Smiley

Again, thanks for the good news!
