In a rare show of discipline, skill, determination, balance and display of outstanding endurance, the Indian Army personnel broke a world record and rewrote history by being the only team in the world to cross a staggering distance of 1100 metres carrying 54 persons on a single moving 500 cc Royal Enfield motorcycle at Bangalore in India’s southern state of Karnataka.
This challenging feat was showcased on Sunday (November 28) before senior Army officers and the public.
This team from the Army Supply Corps (ASC) had achieved this landmark in their second attempt.
In the first attempt this motorcycle team known as ‘Tornadoes’ comprising of the personnel from the Corps of Military Police, had the unique distinction of holding a world record of crossing 225 meters carrying 151 men on 11 motorcycles.
The Guinness Book of World Records endorsed the feat.
Talking to media persons Major General Balbir Singh of Army Supply Corps congratulated the team adding that the members underwent tough physical training for months to achieve the world record.
"These boys have been working for the last few months on preparation for this event and they have tried all permutation and combinations. They went into physical activities. They went into yoga; they went into meditation so as to maintain the balance of achieving this feat," said Major General Balbir Singh of Army Supply Corps (ASC), Bangalore.
Ram Kripal Yadav, leader of the group ‘Tornadoes’ said he was excited to be a part of the record setting team.
"I am feeling very happy. We have made the world record of maximum number of people on a single bike. This record has never been attempted by anybody else. I am very happy and very lucky that I was part of this record attempt to establish my name in the world," added Yadav.
