Right now, their focus is websites that they claim "violate copyrights," yet the torrent-finder.com website that was seized by DHS contained no copyrighted content whatsoever. It was merely a search engine website that linked to destinations where people could access copyrighted content. Google also links to copyrighted content -- does that mean the feds will soon seize Google, too?

These seizures were conducted on the basis of language in the DMCA law, which is vastly overreaching in its powers (it was passed to appease the music recording industry and the RIAA). Even so, the U.S. Senate is right now considering passing yet another law -- COICA -- the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/...), a new law that would give the federal government even more power to shut down websites it opposed.

vote more liberal and moderate people to office and get this marxist takeover done with. like a bandaid, just yank it off.

They siezed a site where you could buy Sports jerseys for $25.  My son had bought me a Rocky Blier and Mel Blunt jersey for my birthday.  They are awesome, stitched on numbers and all the authentic patches on the jerseys.  They came with $380 price tags on them.

Now I ask you who are the criminals here?  The copyright infringers who are making a profit selling these jerseys at the reasonable price?, or the copyright holders who are selling them for $380?

I know the legal answer, but legal and fair are two different things.

Actually, I couldn't care less if all the profiteers and overpaid athletes starve.  likewise with the Nascar merchandise, $50 for a hat????

Why can't, won't or doesn't the government shut down a site like wikileaks where people are committing treason against the usa? I have no issue with a website being shut down that's committing or promoiting illegal acts.

YMMV,

i think you have to look past the trees and into the forest.  the gov is happy to have wikileaks.  they (the gov) is HOPING for enough turmoil to then exercise its socialist agenda to clamp down on the American people.  Its kind of a rope-a-dope strategy.  wake up Americans.  continue to push the legislature to pass bills that recind government actions that take away our constitutional rights.  Call your Senators and Representatives.  demand constitutional compliance.

Boo on these Commies that want to close down these sites that direct one or outright sells pirated knockoffs of another copyrighted item or intellectual property of another. Our copyright laws are a Communist Liberal conspiracy. Bootleggers are competition and thus good for business.

if you'll remember back when the CRU emails were hacked there was uproar on the left and nancy pelosi was ready to throw the hacker in jail. now they don't seem to care. must be a matter of content, if the leaked material agrees with your ideology then its cool if not "string them up!"

Your right on the money flat6. This fits into their agenda perfectly. We have to wise up.

Amazing... you condone piracy because you don't like the price.  Don't buy the crap if you think it costs too much.

Clearly, the criminals are the ones that violate copyright and the ones that would purchase from them.  What's the difference between this and buying a car stereo out of someone's trunk, wires clipped?  Zero.

Perhaps I didn't make my point clear enough.  I don't condone copyright infringment.  I didn't buy the shirts, they were given to me.  My point was that the $380 price on the shirt amounts to legal theft IMHO.  I would never pay that amount for the shirt and didn't.  My son had no way of knowing the site was violating licenses or copyrights until the site was siezed.  No different than you coming across a good deal on a product on the net.  As I said in my original post Legal and fair are two different things.

Not so amazing when you get off your high horse.

I think that the website your son has gone to is probably one that buys directly from china.  Now, we all know that china doesn’t respect our laws, and is mainly concerned for undercutting the American free capital system that we believe in.  By buying from china you are promoting the CHEAP knock off brands that mimic the authentic.  Just think of that 12 year old kid that made your jersey the next time you put it on.

Just think of that when you complain that NOTHING is made in America anymore, or you wonder WHY did your job go over seas!!
