I bought a used truck last week and the dealer said I have 3 months of XM radio for free.  This is good because lately I’ve been very irritated with the local radio stations and all the stupid, annoying commercials they’re playing  and I’ve been considering looking into the XM/Serrius radio service.

I signed up, with instructions from the car salesman, and I love it!!

Then I get a bill in the mail!

But It’s not bad, it looks like I get 6yrs of “XM everything” service for $16.06.

However the bill states I get credits of over $750 and $114 for previous Subscription, which I don’t  have.

I called the XM people and talked to a very foreign sounding lady (named Ann) and she assures me, in her very foreign accent, that this is correct.  Maybe it’s the credits through the dealership/GM, I don’t know.

Has anybody else run into this type of issue?

She has also told me that if I buy other XM radios or vehicles that have XM radios in them they will all work on this one subscription.  Is this true?  (if it is true,  $16 for 6yrs can't be beat)

Where is the best source of information on this? (besides here)

I'm thinking that souunds too good to be true...

I got involved with XM Radio, the same way you did, but my truck only had the XM capabilities, no 'free' service.  I called the folks at XM, and was told that I could activate my radio for $10.99/month, all up front, for about $132/year.  I did it, and I, like you, really love it (check out 'Deep Tracks' XM 40).  I like it so much, that I purchased another XM Radio (MyFi portable) for use on longer trips on the Valk.  That same unit sits in a 'Home Base', when not being used on the Valk, and plays through the home stereo.  The unit was $99, with a $99 rebate, and $6.99/month.  I gave a similar unit to my parents, and pay an additional $6.99/month for their subscription.

So, you thinking you've got 6 years for $16...  I'd check further, before getting hit with a big surprise  Angry  I know my subscription is annual, with each separate radio coming due once a year, and being automaticly billed to my CC...

I have the same MyFi Unit Black Dog has and I think I pay around $11 month for a subscription and another $2.00 per month to be able to log in on line and listen to music anywhere I have a computer with decent speakers and a reasonably fast connection.  I move the MyFi from my van to my Valk (and my riding lawn mower too  cooldude)

That $16 for all those years sounds little odd... to good to be true. So do those HUGE rebates.  Unless GM made some type of deal and literally paid up a subscription for all those years... I'd cross check with the dealership on that.

Maybe it's $16/month which usually adds some sports games/channels and Howard Stern, Dr. Laura which I don't care about...

Steve's right,  channel 40- Deep tracks... a good one!

my old boss had an XM system in the shop, (had a co-worker that wouldn't listen to anything other then AC/DC, or kiss and would call everyother song "gay").

anyway......   his bill was $150 for the year if you paid up front.  i thought it was great.

so, i take it you're sick of the christmass comercials??  also, are you sure it was a forgein lady named "Ann", or really a forgein guy named "Peggy"!! Grin

i'd call back and have them send you a written statement with all the credits listed from start date to estimated end of contract.  along with a written monthly charge amount.  sure it might sound too good to be true, but they'll have to give it to you if it's in writting!!

I've had XM for three years and they tried to raise the rate each time the renewal comes up. Last week they wanted $44.79 a quarter including royalty fee that's $14.93 a month or $179.16 a year.

I told them I just wanted to cancel as their prices just have gotten out of hand, after a brief discussion they offered a renewal price of $88.78 a year that's $7.40 a month, so I agreeed to renew.

Doesn't hurt to ask, that's $90.38 dollars cheaper than their origional price and the whole conversation took less than 5 min.

I think I was paying a bit under $40 for five units - both daughters, the wife, and my "mobile" and "shop" ones. But, as was mentioned, they kept raising the price, especially after Sirius merged with XM, and wanted to charge an arm and leg to add football, etc.

Now, I just use my phone, and Pandora, and listen commercial free to my heart's content. Paying for the phone and data, anyway, so no extra charge, plus I like the way it works, even better than XM. I also use it on the Valk, wired to great speakers in my helmet.

so, i take it you're sick of the christmass comercials??

Not so much the Christmas comercials, although their abundant now, ('tis the season) but in this area we have a multi-company car dealership (Ford, Chevy, and Dodge) that is one of the "Screamers" type.  You know - "if you don't buy from me your paying too much..."
These are CONSTANTLY being played!! (thank God for my remote)
And what makes it worse when we were looking for a Trailblazer in '06 we went there to see what kind of "good deal" they could make us.  By far the worst car buying experience I ever had, definatly didn't and would never (unless they are giving them away) buy a car from these people!!

also, are you sure it was a forgein lady named "Ann", or really a forgein guy named "Peggy"!! Grin
This is funny because as I was talking to "Ann" and then called back and talked to "Thea" (evidently these girls in the Phillipines have "America" sounding names) I had that exact commercial running through my mind!!
