I'm new here so... I'm not sure if anything like this might have been posted before, so don't rip me a new one if this is a repeat of someone's previous idea.

Being a Goldwing owner as well... it just seemed perfectly logical use of a commonly available part.  It was also very, very easy to do...

Also... because I am a web crawler, I have my own hosting solution and domain name, so it is my habit to post stuff like this to my own server and save the forums I use from having eat up there own space and bandwidth hosting my own blathering...

Check it out: http://culleynet.com/?page_id=1116

I used one of these Centech things from RiderWearHouse...

I mounted it here...

It has been trouble free, but is awkward to add stuff to.

I bet it is easy to get to the one in the toolbox, but I still have my toolkit
and owner's manual there...

Other folks have put them behind the sidecover, I wish I had tried that, I didn't
think it would fit when I came up with my scheme...

My plans include mounting the compressor for my air horns where you have yours, but I will say that is a cool little doo-dad you have there...

I sorta wish I had my tool kit.. but that is not my choice, so I might as well use the space.  I like it that the thing comes away from the velcro and that the entire thing is INSIDE the battery box...

That's really nice Mike.

Does the galvanized piece come with the kit, or did you make it?

Lastly, what is that little do-dad on the power wire? The piece between the connector  and the relay.

Thanks

Under the side cover.  Mounted to a small bracket utilizing battery box holder flange bolt and one of the long bolts on the starter.

That's really nice Mike.

Thanks!

Does the galvanized piece come with the kit, or did you make it?

We made our roof out of all these rolls of galvanized metal... I made it out of a chunk of that...

Lastly, what is that little do-dad on the power wire? The piece between the connector  and the relay.

I didn't really know what I was doing  Wink so I followed whatever instructions I could get... there's a
fuse between the relay and battery on the rattlebars relay diagram, so there's one on my power wire...

I had started down this road before someone here said to put in a relay and make the fuse
box hot only when the key was on... it really pays to talk about what you're doing so that others can
jump in and suggest better ways  cooldude

Thanks

Okay... I'm feeling pretty romped on here... "Gee... Welcome to the Valkyrie tech forums..."

Really nice non relevant images of workers installing standing seam galvanized roofing not withstanding; Your solution seems to be a rather expensive version of what I bought for $45 and installed in an hour... already relayed... already switched... WITH the added bonus of the trickle charger feed...  No metalworking skills involved... no making parts... it's clean, it's under cover, it has more available circuits and it's easy to access...

I am not feeling the love here...

I am getting the impression you guys feel it's your duty to 'one-up' a newbie post with non relevant images of roofing projects and trite solutions to known problems...

Sorry if my intent was miss-read... but being the new entry here... and having your first "real" contribution romped over my some "more established" guy offering advice on how to install a somewhat lesser solution that requires more fabrication, more expense and more time and effort to install...

If you really want to be friendly, then just say:  "Gee... nice job but... <insert comment here>"

I'm just trying to contribute... trying to fit in... trying to offer and solicit help...

I feel I was unduly romped on...

I apologize for any amount I contributed to your romptedness... the picture of the rolls of
galvanized is a mosaic from my wife's web page it's blended with the other pictures... my fuse box is
more awkward to add to than yours, and I wish it was where Trynt's is... I guess it is, you know,

Ok, I get it!

We're supposed to click on the link to you web site to see what you did. I don't regularly like to do this, just a real aversion to courting troubles you could call it!

But I did, now, click on your link.

What you did is nice and thorough and very functional.

What the others have done is (to me) just as nice and thorough and functional.

I don't see a contest here!

Thanks for posting and starting this thread.

As a recent Valkyrie owner and relatively new VRCC member I personally like any and all info I've seen generated here on problems/solutions. I am probably one of the cheaper old farts here, so I would probably build my own power setup using automobile relays I currently have from wiring harness's I have laying around in one of the piles of junk in my back yard.. I do like the idea of using the tool/manual storage area, since I also did not get any of that with the bike when I traded off the vette for it and at a $45.00 investment, yours is inexpensive, well thought out and provides for future additions.....CONGRATS

this is a roof I saw - not as nice as the "other" one, but something I could do...

Just cuz I can't help but...

Kidding aside, I hope you don't take ANY of this too seriously. If you spend any time here, you'll find that virtually ALL of the threads have at least ONE alternative solution. Most have MANY more than one. And "boobie" threads seem to get MUCH more praise, than any others! Oh yeah, or threads with pictures of great big chunks of cholesterol-inducing bovine flesh...usually accompanied by grilling...

There are a gazillion solutions to every single project here, and if you're happy with YOUR solution, that should be enough. It will be a RARE day, that EVERYone thinks yours is the BEST solution, so if you are posting for that, don't expect too much. Also, I've seen some posts that have been up for weeks or longer, before someone praised the original post.

Hope you stick around and both learn from some of the others, as well as some of us learn from you...

I'm a relative newbie, also, being here since June or July. And I sure have learned a LOT, and hope I've instilled a bit of knowledge on others, as well. And I hope I've inspired a few, to further my ideas...

That's a nice job.  I thought of that but decided to leave the battery box alone for a future upgrade- a starcom digital.

Since your new you may not be aware that the tech board actually has two sections.  There is this one the "new" board and the old tech archive http://www.valkyrieforum.com/forum/tech_archive.cgi

If you are searching for something it's best to check both locations.  There are great ideas and help in both areas.

Ride safe.

385, I have an IS with the radio mounted on top of the battery case.  ie, I don't have the room that a standard/tourer has in the battery area.
Did you purchase the GL1500 or the Universal for your install?

Let me start by saying that I was a complete, puckered hemorrhoidal sphincter yesterday.

I am not sure what got under my fur yesterday but I certainly had my britches out of sorts with everyone... I also had a tie-in with the wife last night.  I eventually just had to go lock myelf in the spare bedroom and be alone for awhile.

Allow me to offer apologies to all who posted as well as those who had the misfortune to read any of that exchange.  I will offer no excuses and accept full responsibility for being a complete 'nad!

Mike "hubcapsc":  Your graciousness astounds me!  You have every right to shun me forever.  Please forgive me for being overly defensive and a complete dork.  I would consider this a great personal favour.  I agree... "I sure do like working on, talking about and riding Valkyries.."

Trynt... You are absolutely right... I was wrong.  I understand if you do not want to post to my threads.

All others... Thanks for continuing to this post and tolerating what I can only describe as a full blown tantrum.

I hope all the embers her can find it in their hearts to forgive me...

You will find a lot of this personally aimed artillery fire at times.

The best is to simply ignore it!

The comical part is to be blasted by criticism and threat by some person who exhibits great difficulty in even being able to spell correctly.

That little insight is indicative of the quality of the individual who is leveling the assault.

I find great amusement in those "juvenile responses", and I receive many!

Travis,

We all have bad days. You did a nice job with your power distribution and I have been thinking of doing something like this for a while. Your thread just gives me more ideas...

You see, that is the way this forum works most of the time. There is a ton of really nice folks around here always willing to lend a helping hand when you are in need. Hey! One of the guys here even gave me a part for my IS radio antenna, that otherwise, I would have had to replace completely because the part that was broken was not sold separately. He didn't sell it to me, he GAVE it. Personnally, I always like to read many ideas when I work on a project and take what suits me best of each idea to come up with my own solution.

Welcome aboard, brother!  Smiley

I don't want to flog a dead horse, words where said (written), postings made, and appologies given. Thank you.

Just a reminder to all, that with the written word only, we do not have the benefit to see or hear how those words where written. An example of what I mean, is when someone says "FU" with a big gron smile on their face and in their voices, it doesn't have the same sting as some other AH who says the same words but has anger in their eyes and a growl in their throat!

I have learned to re-read a letter up to 5 times, to make sure what I read the first time is still hwat I am reading 5 times later. You know what? I have almost NEVER read the same meaning into one on the 3-5 read.
