San Jose, CA. 1999 I/S 232 miles when bought 11/05

How much movement should the Rubber Dampers in the rear wheel have?

Should I be able to move them at all?
Mine move about 1/16" or a little bit more in all directions.

I would really like to put this rear wheel back on today sine I finally cleaned it up.

Thanks a bunch.

There should be no movement at all by hand. Mine fell out after I removed the retainer. Replace them this morning. They are not big bucks, but get the ones for a 2000 Interstate thy come with the inserts. About $38.00 for the set of 5  uglystupid2

Thanks, I was searching and hadn't found my answer yet.

That is what I figured, I will contact local dealer right now. This dealer offers 30% off for the local forum members. This is one shop that still cares about the customer and the bike.

Not in any way do I gain from this or any one I am related or normally associated with.
www.hollisterhonda.com is the dealership and the forum is www.southbayriders.com.

Thank you very much for the knowledge and the scoop on the 2000 dampers being different.

Thanks
Matt

There was a bit of slop with the stock dampers but that was at 103,000 miles. All but one fell right out when I pulled the retainer. Grin
Put Shockbushing Gary dampers back in & along with a low mile used driveshaft & a new pinion cup it feels like brand new.  cooldude

Well mine are the stock dampers and I only have a smidgen over 20,000 on my 1999 Interstate so I guess the rubber will just fail with time also.

They may get sloppy but they will not fail.

Sorry I guess I used the wrong term for you, I did not mean fail as in fall out and not function. I merly meant that with time even Honda grade rubber will change is size shape or density as with most materials. They would still work but they are hard and sloppy compared to the way they were when they went into the wheel at the factory.

Is that a bit more clear as to what exactly I was refering too?
