I'm going to build a tiny pole building over my well and water system. It will be about 12' Square.
Is there anyone out there willing to teach me how to layout a hip roof for this project?

I'm pretty good at muddling through pretty much anything, but a little advise could speed the project up and make less kindling.  Wink

I saw that, I was debating dl'ing the video, I'm running out of gigs for the month and didn't want to waste my remaining bandwith if it wasn't "all that".

Living way out here has it's down falls. My dog sitter burned up most, if not all of my monthly allotment of internet. And I'm on vacation this week. Sad

Head for the hdw or builder's center and get a "Squangle" adj. T-square by Mayes (made right near ya in Johnson City). It has great instructions (which I've lost) attached and it's super useful to have anyway.

If you go to home depot or lowes pick up a speed square, as it comes with a little book that has all that info and more on how to use it. A very usefull tool also.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

a hip roof is not really much of a do it yourself job. If you dont work with roof angles much or even at all then this would be a difficult task. Roofs work off of 90 deg angles. You got seat cut, plumb cuts, rise, hip cuts, birds mouth cuts, etc. I'm trying to remember since its been 10 yrs since I did one but I think the ridge board is a 1/3 of the lenght of the building. The rest is hard to explain (type) without showing you hands on. If you do decide to do it then get a speed square-a little triangle tool, and the adjustable big triangle thing. Those are a must. If you can read and understand what the book says then you are a better man then me.  Smiley

It would be cheaper-time and material- to get a set of trusses made. Should be about $50 tops for one truss. They also make hip trusses.  Wink
