“Who here speaks French?” demanded our sergeant. Three guys raised their hands. “Good,” he said. “You get to clean the latrine. That’s a French word.”

My dad, may he RIP, told me when I was a pup, do not volunteer for anything, at school, in the service, especially when you are in boot camp.
My step dad told me the same thing. Both of them were Marines. I think mom had a thing for a Marine...... LOL..... She married 2 of them.. Well, 1 was drafted during WWII, while they were married, the other one did his time and was working at the same place mom did as a guard..
Dad came down a line getting shots and etc, and every other one was in the Corps........ Dad knew he was in the Marines before he left the Train Depot to get on the train to San Diego........ That was a revolting situation for me, one day I have my dad at home and the next he no longer there, to never come back..... Still brings tears to my eyes.
