My 97 standard rear shocks have no position indicator on them, which way raises and which way lowers them??and how do you adjust to both the same without the position marks? There is part of a decal on one of them and nothing on the other<both seem to work well but I would like to make sure they are both set the same .Thanks

The only way to know for sure is to go all the way to the bottom on both and count the clicks as you go up (1 to 5) Once you get to the lowest setting, you won't be able to turn it anymore, I've heard that if you keep turning past #5 setting it will drop clear back to #1. Don't forget to mark them when you get them where you want them.

It helps to take some weight off the rear before adjusting if going past the last setting.

They rotate clockwise. You need to use the proper tool, the cover bends and scratches easily. On the right side of the bike, the side with the key, rotation is to the rear. On the left side, the side with the fuel shut off, the rotation is towards the front.

And if you want, you can order new stickers for them from HDL or another OEM parts place.
