The truly scary thing is that all the cagers are getting their cell phones out to get and send a photo of this guy.

Be careful out there.

This is a friend of mine.  He’s been riding most of his life, and this bike has been a work in process for almost 20 years.  The frame has over 250,000 miles that he personally rode, most of which had the apes and sissybar.  This pic is about 3-4 years old as he was riding on Hwy 40 near Chesterfield, MO.  Since this pic, he’s changed the paint, added higher risers, and extended the pipes even more.  It’s a safe bet he could outride most people on this board.

I have personally ridden with him on several runs, including Deals Gap. Surprisingly, there are roads in Northwestern Arkansas that are more technical than the Gap.  He can maneuver that bike with ease through the twisties, even while shifting with the jockey shift.  He has seen all 48 contiguous states on that bike, and never trailers it.  If you want to see a true rider, that would be him.

He has three engines and two transmissions that he plays with for that bike.  While running one, he will be building another.  He does most of the machine work himself, along with the fabrication.  He doesn’t wear the engines out, but rather improves them as he see fit.

Yes, it is quite common to belittle things you don’t understand.  This is the same as when someone yells “Get a REAL bike” or “Harley wannabe” at us for riding a Valkyrie.

You must be a good friend if you believe he can ride safely with those apes.  I don't believe it.  And I'm certain the motor cops who pull him over & write him up, the judge who sees a picture, and the insurance company who denies his claim don't believe it either.  Frankly, I don't care how skilled he is.  That bike is going to limit what he can do.  To the point I will make a large bet - even if his name is Valentino Rossi - I can spank him through Deer Creek Canyon SW of Denver.

I admire the guy for his unigueness and the ability to go to the beat of his own drum in spite of the critics.
But I will have to argue no matter the riding skill it would still be quite a task to manuever that machine very gracefully in the twistys.

The guy must have skills because I wouldn't make it around the block on that thing. I am sure he has a lot of work in the bike, but the whole look strikes me as a trick in the way a talented guitarist might play upside down or behind his back. Sure, kinda cool, but why other than to show off? I am all for personal embellishments on a bike but I can't understand why anyone would want to compromise the functionality.

You can believe what you want.

I’ve never asked him, but I’m not aware of him getting tickets for those handlebars, even though Missouri has a limit of 15” above seat height.  Obviously, it doesn’t stop him even if he does.  Insurance is required to license a motorcycle in MO.

Frankly, I don't care how skilled he is.  That bike is going to limit what he can do.  To the point I will make a large bet - even if his name is Valentino Rossi - I can spank him through Clear Creek Canyon SW of Denver.

Well the bike looks like a Fatboy to me. It also looks like it is a 2009 or a 2010 model. It sure is not about 20 years old.

It's a 1987 FLST that has been EXTENSIVELY modified.  He would probably chuckle at the idea that it's a new bike!   Grin

That is his bike, not yours, not Willy G Davidsons! He made it made it HIS ! He maybe nutz, but it is a large club and I am a proud member! He deserves alot more respect than the guys with 236 miles on their showroom stock bike wearing every piece of brand new leather they found on the way to trailer week! I would NEVER disrespect a mans ride..That is just WRONG   tickedoff tickedoff

Ride with the 1% guys sometime and watch and learn..They know RESPECT ! Would you talk crap about Solo1 driving a miata? Would you disrespect flamingo babe for havin front wheels? Most of you would be scared to ride my Valk! His bike aint my cup of tea,BUT YOURS IS NOT EITHER !

p.s. sorry to Charlene and Wayne for including you in my rant  Embarrassed

Missed the point of course - while you're speaking for everybody. I'm not the "Bestest".  But I am skilled enough to spank ANYONE on a bike set up with apes like that.  And I'm backing it up with a large bet.  Well large to me.  Say $1000.  Though I wouldn't want to be responsible for his injury - if he takes the bet - that's his choice.  Though I'm probably not being fair.  I'm sure he doesn't ride fast through tight twisties on that bike - no doubt it's mainly for cruising and otherwise posing.  Check the pic on your link of the babe standing on the bike with her tush by his face.  Here it is:

Now I'm thinking of setting up a bike the same way if that's the payoff.
Hell, now that I look at the cornering clearance on his bike - it's IMPOSSIBLE for him to stay with me in the twisties.  He has typical Harley clearance, maybe worse with those low fenders.  No matter what his skill is - his bike will drag hard parts and unload the rubber long before mine does - that gives me at least 10mph faster in the twisties.  Won the bet already...

although the apes are a bit extreme, I can understand since I too love the extreme. that bike is beautiful, great work done their but, lol wow, lol, it would be hard for the average guy that hasnt ridden with apes to understand, and most not to like it.
Modifying his bike is his choice. I salute that. I will say, I ve seen so many pics of it thru the years to say, he didnt something right cuz it is published alot!! diffrent strokes for different folks I guess. I just think HE did a great job building HIS bike.

While I fully and strongly respect and will defend his right to make a vehicle like that, I also strongly will defend the right of everyone else to point at it and laugh at it for being ridiculous...

I lump that in with those idiots that put $8000 worth of 24" rims and low profile tires on a $500 car and think they're cool... Whatever, that's their business, I'm glad it makes them feel good, but I'm still gonna point at it and laugh...

As far as this particular rider's skill level, that's not the issue. He could be the best rider in the world, it doesn't matter, his skill level isn't what it could be if he didn't have those ridiculous apes, simple as that...

No, no, I didn’t miss the point.  Your manhood was threatened, so you felt compelled to challenge someone who you don’t know and who has never challenged you to a duel.  A proxy challenge doesn’t count.  I also catch a glimpse of jealousy, since you posed a pic of one of the MANY rallies and events he attends where women want to pose with him and his bike.  Don’t be too obvious!

Right pal.  All about my "manhood".  And jealous too.   So busy with your hero worship,  you missed the point again and make it about me rather than recognizing the foolishness of your hero's taking his self-expression to such an extreme that his bike is virtually unridable.  Clearly dangerous and sure to be ticketed - certainly around here.  Not only would he be ticketed - he would also be towed - not allowed to ride it home or anywhere else - but towed to impound or a shop where it could be made ride-legal. I can hear it now - "You aren't riding that dangerous bike on MY road..." You claimed he could outride most riders on this board.  My point is - no way.  Not on that bike, no matter how big a hero he is to you.  The "challenge" is about saying you're full of it. My comment about the girl - just a sop to humor.  I doubt he has ridden it around the country as you claim.  Every LEO that sees him is sure to write him up.  Such blatant disregard for safety and the law - I would stop him instantly if I was a cop.  And I'm no angel - but I don't ASK for tickets.
