I need to reglue the gasket on my trunk, on my version it goes around the top edge of the trunk bottom and the lid comes down over it. After painting it, the kid tried to glue it down using some form of epoxy and really made a mess. I pulled the gasket off immediately and spent an afternoon cleaning up his mess. Now, I just have the gasket sitting in place with the lid latched down, figured I'd just leave it that way so it will take a "set" while I come up with a good glue. Any suggestions on something that will hold the gasket in place and not pull up when I open the lid?

My first thought was the product called Goop, or something like that (I used it and it dried and I threw it away).
My second thought was silicon caucking, are someother like product, that is water proof. You need to check out if the cleaning product for the caucking removal will eat the ABS plastic. Just incase it needs to be removed sometime in the future for another repair/paint job.

automotive weather strip glue should work well... or some high temp glue used to put drum seals on a clothes dryer....any appliance repair shop will have a ton of it laying around...you get enough to do about a half dozen seals in every kit..

I used some clear silicone that Alph had in his garage to re-attach mine. It's held just fine.

3M weatherstripping glue I wouldn't over do it with whatever you use. When it comes time for removing it for any reason you want it to come off in one piece,

It's black, very runny which makes it easier to spread. I've only done one section for now, just want to see how it holds. First impression is good however. I went across the front where the latches are, and about 3" around the corners on each end. The corners are always the area where you're going to have a problem..if at all. As instructed on the package, I spread a film on the inside of the gasket, then on the matching surface of the trunk. Let it sit for a minute or so, then slipped it in place. Just a little pressure in the corners and it holds it down. I closed the lid and will let it sit overnight with the pressure of the latched lid on it. If that part is good in the morning, I'll finish it. I ended up spreading it with my finger(much easier and effective), both on the trunk surface and inside the rubber. Took me ten minutes to get it off my finger with Goof-Off. Some real sticky stuff.

Yep this be the stuff. I tryed to pick up some today at a small hardware store. The person working there took me to the weather stipping instead. I guest they didn't carry it, because he did not know what it was. Will try another place tomorrow.

I buy it from an automotive paint supplier...one who sells to the body shops because they have to use this stuff on most of the cars they work on.
