I see your buddy also must pull a trailer with that VTX. I would hate to see his mpg when he does that. One year we had a guy with a 1800 VTX  go to Key West with us and it seemed we were stopping about every 75 to 80 miles to fuel up.

he had a hitch on it, but no trailer on this trip.  he was 2 up.

on the way back I was able to hit 200 miles and hit res when I pulled in my driveway.

if we ran about 80 -85 on a stretch of super slab we both had the low fuel light come on at about 100.
the VTX seamed to get the same no matter what speed we ran.  but as you know once you open up 6 carbs she really drinks it down

we are planning on being there again this year, Smiley so far our route there is about 3000 miles Smiley even though straight shot is about 700  Smiley

we are thinking of hitting the testy festy the weekend before and heading from there.

last year was awesome, we never had any set plans and we were luck to find camp grounds where ever we ended up for the night, (even once at 12:00am)

I will have to look, but one night we stopped at the KOA at devils Tower, camped at a campground in rapid city, then one acrost from the reptile garden out side rapid city, one in deadwood, one out in the black hill somewhere close to keystone.
and a few others to and from the area.

we never stopped at the same one twice, it was nice just being able to ride and see what ever we wanted then camp were we stopped. but putting up and breaking down camp everyday did get old LOL
