Two days before officers-training graduation, I bragged that my single demerit was the lowest of the company.   The next day I saw with chagrin a slip on my bunk, and was thoroughly humbled when I read the list:
1 Demerit:  Littering,  Penny under bed,
1 Demerit:  Lincoln needs a shave and haircut,
1 Demerit:  Trying to bribe an officer,
1 Demerit:  Bribe not enough,
