Not mine, thank goodness. Can someone give me an idea of the cost involved if you do the repairs yourself? I know the engine will need to be pulled, just looking for an approximate cost on what normally needs to be replaced.

Seems to me it was about $3-400, but I can't find my receipts. I spent abount $800, but I also installed an R&M Belly tank. I replaced the rear case, and a couple of gears. It wasn't too bad, so long as you have a warm place and the proper tools. I made the required sockets to save some money. I'm sure someone else will chime in. Good luck!!

If it truly is hydro locked, I would think about a salvage engine. I've seen a few go for less than $500. no e-bay, I can't remember the milage on them, but this may be an option to look into.

If you need a motor, I have a spare, 51,000 miles on it. No carbs, valve covers need replaced, scratched up in an accident.

rings and rods is al youd realy need. might as well do a new set of pistons too just because. just make sure the cases go to a machinist to check alignment for the crank.

I had one come thru that hydro locked, then because they tried to start it(unknowingly) it bent a rod and well, that was about al that was really wrong besides the rings in the one cylinder. Just went ahead and redid it fresh. like 600 in parts. but we updated a few things also...

Sometimes all that breaks the is starter gear and idler gear. About $100 or so with a new gasket for the rear case. If you remove the starter and look inside the case you can see if the gears are broken.

I doubt it's more than the starter gears. They are the weak link, by design. Too bad they couldn't have figured out a slip clutch instead...
