I just learned of the passing of Major Dick Winters.  Many of you probably know of his story through the "Band of Brothers" HBO series.

The loss of men like him diminishes us all.  RIP Major.   Sad

here is a link for more details...

We have lost another member of "The Greatest Generation".

RIP, Major Winters.

I still think we need an American flag emoticon.

Thank you for posting this. I had not yet heard about this great mans passing. If anyone doesn't know who Major Winters was, then rent or buy 'Band of Brothers.' You won't regret it.

I've watched 'Band of Brothers' many times.  According to the GI's that he commanded, he was an exceptional leader.

That sucks but was inevitable.  God's speed Major Winters.  When you get to the gates of heaven, tell St. Peter that you're another Airborne soldier reporting as ordered.

Sad to hear. Dick  Winters was a one of the best our country has to offer - did his duty quietly as best he could and made our country better in the process.

Band of Brothers is one of the best  historical movie-documentaries made.  Really makes me stand in awe every time I watch any of the 10 parts of it.

Darrel "Shifty" Powers, the expert rifleman, died on the same day as Micheal Jackson.  Guess who got the most news?

I agree with Loth. "Band of Brothers" was the best special I've seen.  The men of the 101st were the Greatest Generation. I take nothing away from our present men and women serving.  My hat is off to all of them.
