Just got back from a trip to see my Uncle in Mass.
Turs out he was a tail gunner during WW2 with the 8th Air force
in England.
He told me of the cold and how afraid they all were.
But they never said a thing to each other not wanting to have it spread
to the rest of the crew.
Another cool thing he let me in on was their encounter with some of the first
ME 262s or jet air craft they ever saw.
How they could not toch the planes side or their skin would stick to it.
Guess it was like the old flag pole thing.
Also started to talk about how the marines in the Pacific had it so much harder than
that our people in Europe. What he ment was in Europe the soldiers got R&R in Paris or
london. The Marines like my Dad had told me got to go to some God forsaken island
in the rear.  My Dad said anyplace was better than having someone shoting at you.

I have been keeping journals of all the stories that have been related to me
by my relitives. It has given me so much respect for them because of how they
just seem to come back home and get to work

That's why they are called America's "greatest generation."

Sixty planes go down on one mission = 600 men dead or captured.

They were an incredible group of people. It's great you're recording their stories.
