Well, it got to the point where I just HAD to get some wind, no matter what. I left the house this afternoon with the temp at 53 and made my first stop at the local pharmacy on the square, downtown.

Then I headed North on US Hwy 431 towards Petersburg. The bridge over Cane Creek parallels an old railroad bridge, the piers of which still remain.

The town fathers of Petersburg have their heads on straight - look who they share Town Hall with:

The rest of downtown is quite quaint, also.

Leaving Petersburg, I headed East on TN 129, a twisty, hilly, two-lane country road. I saw lots of great vistas, but there was no place to pull off and take pics. Every side road or farm driveway was either a sheet of ice or solid mud. I did manage to stop on the road and snap a shot or two, but nothing like Smokin' Joe's shots.

Just north of Lynchburg (home of the Jack Daniels Distillery), I came across this place:

Reckon who all those barrels are for?

When those barrels are filled, they go in one of these warehouses for seven years.

I spent a few minutes walking around the square in Lynchburg,

and then it was time to head home. Heading West on TN 50, I passed this lovely, old and abandoned, house. There was a small herd of deer in the front yard, but by the time I got stopped, turned around, and the camera out, they were gone.

Before I knew it, I was heading back down my driveway and home.

The trip was only fifty miles, but by going slow and stopping to take lots of pics, I stretched it out to over two hours! Gotta do this more often!

Couldn't get close enough to smell anything from the warehouses yesterday, and it probably wasn't warm enough to really generate that whiskey aroma.

What I could and did smell almost everywhere was horse manure - seems like everyone and his brother chose yesterday to muck out the stalls of the horse barns and there are a LOT of horse barns this close to Shelbyville and the Tennessee Walking Horse headquarters!!

Great ride report Bama Red!  I haven't been  to Lynchburg in a while, even though I am a Squire and own a postage stamp piece of property at Jack's place.  I elected to remove the radio, pillion seat, and sissy bar from the Valk to get it ready for the Honda rack I won on ebay.  And to install running lights and an accessory plug for GPS etc.  That and got the Vette cleaned and covered again until time to exercise it again.
Next on the list is pulling the rear wheel for maintenance.  Been putting it off too long now so I got to get er done so I can catch some wind with you guys!  Beautiful Valk, by the way!

I feel like I went on a ride after seeing all those pics you posted.

Great Job.

Side note: All those barrels you saw were of course to be utilized in the making of Bourbon Whiskey.

You knew that already, but I watched discovery channel on Irish Whiskey, Scotch Whiskey, and

Canadian Whiskey and they reuse those barrels of American Whiskey makers in their operation.

They are only used once in American WHiskey to get that Oaky Look in the mixture for Bourbon.

But the whiskey made abroad is of a lighter and fruitier taste and thus the used and spent

barrels work better for them than new barrels.Just a side note.

All I can do is look at the 20 inches of snow in our yard and wonder, when’s it all going to melt!!  Last night on my way home from work I noticed that the snow banks are as tall as the mailboxes!!  That 53* sounds real nice for riding, or anything right about now!!!

Hey Marcel,,
just a bit of information,,
those barrels are not for burbon, they are for Tennessee Whiskey, most folks dont know that jack Daniels has its own brand. which makes 3 kinds of whiskey, burbon, scotch, and Tennessee whiskey.
i found that out during a tour i took,,i like bourbon,,,old granddad,,,101,,,,that was up until 1975 when i quit drinkin...

The barrels I Saw on the Discovery Channel did say Wild Turkey on them not Jack Danials.

Maybe that's why.

They make their own Scotch @ Lynchburg.

I was always partial to Jim Beam. Seemed a little Smoother, just to me as a personal fav.

Thanks

The used Jack barrels are shipped to Avery Island LA and used to make Tabasco sauce.

Wow now that is some info.

I like that kind of Hot Sauce.

Texas Pete too, but it is made in Winston Salem, N.C.,.

Habenero is the one I don't particularly cotton too.
