Planning a solo vacation this summer from Toledo to Toronto. Will stay in the Toronto area for about 4-5 days. Anyone made this ride? Also how about any day trips using Toronto as a base?
Thanks,

Hwy 401 is boring and is near as crowed as Chicago traffic within twenty miles of Toronto.

Gas Stops not really a problem.... have made the trip to Toronto quite a few times from Detroit and other parts of Michigan. Like someone said, 401 is BORING, but gas is not a problem. Just be careful on some of the exits because some don't allow you to get back on. Should be about 3.5 to 4 hours from Detroit (Can be done quicker, but those Canadian tickets are NOT cheap!!!!!!) So from Toledo add about an hour or so. I live in Oak Park near Detroit and can make it there in about an hour ish. If your going that way, Niagara Falls is about an hour away from Toronto and the ride from Niagara-on-the-Lake is a good one, have made it several times. We always use the Canadian route when we go east to NY and New ENgland states, so I have made the trip to Niagara/Buffalo about 20 times or more.
Hope that help and just let me know if you need more info!
Brad

There are enough Gas/Truck plazas on 401. Fuel prices are in litres, so expect to pay about 25 percent more than US prices when you convert to gallons. Speed limit is 80 KPH or about 55 MPH. Traffic can get bad near London Ont. during rush hour. From Brampton to Toronto traffic can be a bear 24 hours a day.
Good luck Momz

Hi Zeus Welcome to the Great White North. The 401 is straight and flat, much like I75 from Toledo to Detroit.Speed limit is 100KMs or about 62MPH. You can go 10 over no problem but be warned, the cops are watching.Gas in Windsor and some new updated stations along the way. Don't worry about fillups. A good site for local rides out of TO is http://bikeroads.atspace.com/index.htm Some nice rides around the city.Tons of hotels but shop around for prices. If,by chance, you might want to be up near the end of May,we are having our 7th PowWow in my hometown of London which is half way between TO and Detroit.A gathering of Valk riders are meeting up on the last weekend of May for 4 one day rides thru South Western Ont.Last time here we had 25 Valks over at my home for a BBQ. You are more than welcome to join us. Before you leave ,email me and we could hook up for a ride around my town. Happy Trails Adrian(Chrome)V Canadian Rep VRCC

Being from Toledo, I doubt it's an issue - but leave your guns at home. About three hours East of Toronto, in my neck of the woods, is the Thousand Islands area. Really nice touring, boat tours available, nice riding on the Parkway. Easy daytrip out of Toronto.

Hey Willow 10kms over. The police have strong powers at the roadside if you go way over the limit,50kms over as well as many other subjective calls. Best to stay clear of them. There is a time and place for everything. Happy Trails Adrian(Chrome)V

Hey Willow 10kms over. I thought so, but suspected our American friends might need a clarification.
I myself rarely exceed the posted limit.
Much.
Well, at least within reasonable boundaries.
Usually.
Sometimes.
When the situation dictates.
Loudly.
And without ambiguity.

Hamilton smells, really. The CN Tower is a fun time. 1400 feet up in exterior glass elevators. If you're into waterfalls and forest, the ride up to the Bruce Peninsula, Owen Sound, has a number of really nice sites and restaurants. Takes at least a day. Niagara Falls is almost a must, and only 1/2 hour down the QEW (Queen Elisabeth Way) from the 401 at Hamilton (smells). Parks, Marineland and Casinos... Fred.
