After several failed attempts to find the right compromise of handlebar height, pullback & keep the throttle cables happy I may have hit it. I bought the $49.95 riser extensions from E-bay.

The cables are a bit snug at full LH lock but don't bind. The brass washers that you can see at the base of the risers probably will go, relaxing the cables a bit. After trying modified HD Duece risers & 4.5" aftermarket risers, both of which were too much & bound the cables I was happy to find a solution.
Also installed a cheapie riders backrest also from Ebay for $43.33.

Not real heavy duty but it feels good, much better than none at all.
Haven't gotten to ride it with the new additions yet because... you guessed it ANOTHER rear flat. This make SIX rear flats in the last 5 years.... 4 on my '97, 1 each on my Rocket 3 & the '99. First flat on the CT however. 60K+ riding miles & 5 flats, one every 12K average.  Sad
Oh well, gives me an excuse to put a bike tire back on. A new Avon is on the way! Wink
Anyways, I plugged the CT & I'll take it out for a spin tomorrow.
Maybe my quest to make the '99 as comfy as my '97 is finally nearing completion.  cooldude

REAR CT?  I recently found 3 nails in mine, all the same size and type. Plugged 'em for a short while, then took the tire off and went and had inside patches put on.

Yeah, I thought the same thing but being as I'm not completely satisfied with the CT I figured if it comes off the rim for any reason it isn't going back on. I would not hesitate for a second to patch any tire on my car or truck but the Valk aint a car or truck. I'm just skittish about any patched or plugged tire on a motorcycle.
Anyways the '99 is aproaching 50,000 miles & since I don't know it's maintenence history I'm going to use this tire off opportunity to service the splines & driveshaft.  Wink

How much rise do you get from these risers? Are they the standard 7/8" risers I see on ebay.

Thanks

I bought the same risers off eBay, and like them a lot.  I have tendinitis in my right elbow, and carpal tunnel in my right wrist.  Thought I would try an inexpensive riser to see if it helped.  Elbow is fine, and wrist is a lot better, so I'm not going to buy any other riser.

Backrest looks good  cooldude

rrmdeuce ~ if it says 7/8" it is for fitting a 7/8" handlebar, not 7/8" of additional rise, I was looking at the same thing......keep looking, I found the ones eventually for the 1" bars.....I'm thinking about doing the same instead of a complete new riser.

Hello everybody. I would like to try those risers on my 99 Interstate. does anybody have a item# for those on ebay? also besides placing the cables behind the forks, what other tricks does one need to know to add the risers? and I am 6' and about a 33 inseam would these help with the pain between the shoulder blades after about a 100 miles or so?

I didn't find a part number, but maybe this will link you to it.

With 1 inch risers off eBay, you don't have to relocate the cables.  No other tricks except that you should cover your tank with a blanket in case you bobble the handlebars when they're loose.  A extra set of hands is nice to help you hold everything in place as you tighten things up.

Only one way to know if they'll help your back.  They helped the tendinitis in my elbow, and quieted down my Carpal tunnel a little.

why don't you look at the xf6 website.... daryls 4 inch straight risers will do just what you want, plus they are new, and made right here in the good old usa by one of our members.  also you won't have any problem with the cables.

You won't have any problems with them on Interstates either.  Been running them for a couple of years now

I had the same problem. I did replace the risers for the Phat risers and it helped. Another thing that made a big difference for me was the addition of a rider's backrest. It keeps my back from moving backward, eliminating the stress in my arms and between my shoulder blades. If you don't have one, you might want to try it.

I think those extensions are a much better alternative.

There have been pics posted of the aftermarket risers that break right where the flange mates with the post.

Could be a very dangerous situation!

Hey TT...have you considered a mud flap on the front fender?  As I recall,  long ago and far away, there were several on the board in the very beginning that were pretty confident a mud flap on the front fender would all but eliminate rear flats.  Something about the front tire hits a nail/screw and somehow flips it back to the rear pointly side first.  The flap is "supose" to eliminate that from happening.  Can't prove or disprove the theory but a "search" back several years might provide some entertaining reading on the subject.

Good luck !

I can officially bust the "front flap prevents rear flats" myth. Three of my six flats were WITH a front flap.  Shocked Undecided
