OK, decided that I do not want to turn my silver & black '99 into a solid black like I had planned. I'll either find a way to get rid of the dent on the RH side of the tank or live with it. The black & silver paint has grown on me soooo... I need SIMPLE paint ideas for the National Cycle Cruiserliner bags that I have installed. Basically I just want to add silver to the already black bags. Any ideas??? Pics????

Imitating the lines of either the rear fender or the tank should be fairly straight forward.

what about painting the bag silver and keeping the lid black. it naturally follows the curve of the original paint. and the dent in the tank looks like a bullet hole. you could add a few "bullet holes" to the bags to match your tank.

If it was me I'd copy the Interstate or Tourer lines....If you try to go cheap that's just what it will look like. Go to a body shop price painting the bags and gettin' that dent fixed....You'll be glad you did.....Good paint jobs ain't cheap...Cheap paint job ain't good.

Anybody have a pic of these bags done like that? I might be able to pull that one off myself assuming I can find matching silver paint.

Might not work on the lines of your bags but threw it out there anyway.

And here's a couple Black & Silvers..... Actually, I didn't paint it .... I just bought some 4" pin stripe and cut out the pattern you see followed up with some matching maroon pin striping .... cost less than $20 Here's a close-up .... I prolly should have shot some clear-coat over the silver

WOW, great ideas all ! F6john, I love the silver side covers on the Valkyrie, never thought of that. JRHorton, I think your pattern is great. It's simple enough that even I might be able to pull it off. Does anybody have a Valk silver paint code??

When the Porsche body shop painted mine, they shot the bags in silver first, then masked off the striped area to paint the two tone.
The paint job cost more than the bags at the time I had it done in 2001....

It's simple enough that even I might be able to pull it off. Does anybody have a Valk silver paint code?? When I painted mine, I went to NAPA with the Honda paint codes and they couldn't cross match the color. They said that Honda is pretty tight with their codes apparently. So they took an optical scanner and placed it on the bike to scan the paint and copy the color code. They came up with a color that they said was a Lexus paint color and it matches identically. By the way, the silver bag with the blue tape flames posted above are my bags. I wimped out on the flame job though and went with something similar to stock.

You hand made those bags, didn't you Bob? They look great! I think I'm going to go with a scheme like JRHorton's. I may just paint the whole lid silver that way I only have to make one simple paint line. I have a pinstripe guy who can match up a burgandy stripe to seperate the black & silver. I'm about to take the '99 down for tires, rear end service, & some other odds 'n ends so it may happen sooner rather than later.

Yup...hand made. Thanks for the compliment! I've learned a bunch about fiberglass since doing them and have been kicking around the idea of making up a trunk to go with them. It'll probably be awhile though...I thought about the saddlebags for a couple of years before I got them going.
