GM is opening up the plant for free tours as a result of the Super Duper Bowl. If you can get away during the week, might be interesting to see.

To bad we can't view the GM Hy-Wire during the tour

http://www.flixxy.com/gm-hy-wire-concept-car.htm

There are no mechanical linkages between the chassis and the driving cage, enabling the car shell to be removed within 15 minutes.

The future....

Prince Grill?  How about David's BBQ on Park Row at Bowen?  Nephew of Red Bryan and the only family owned Bryan family BBQ around.

I'm up for this on Monday, Jan 31st.

Anyone else?

Bump

Better thought - world's best hamburgers instead.

Tom's Hamburgers - SW corner of Cooper and I-30 in Arlington.  From the east, take Lamar Cooper exit, veer right at the T  and stay in the right lane.  Turn right, go across the bridge and Tom's is on the right side of the road.

From the west - easier.  Exit Cooper Exit, turn right.  Tom's is there.

1/2 lb burgers, cooked from medium rare to well done, on specialty buns.  Best onion rings anywhere.

12:15 on Monday, 1/31.  Afterwards, over to the GM plant for the tour.

Let me know if you're going to be there.

Disco, Chauffeur and RainMaker made the tour.  It was fascinating, the workers were happy that people wanted to see where they worked and were very gracious, waving at all of us.  We rode a tram around the production lines and saw the cars from bare chassis to final qc.  Then we played and test drove a lot of different cars.

This is open thru Thursday, so if you get a chance, it's well worth the trip.

GM plant tours canceled for second day

General Motors canceled the open house and public tours at its Arlington assembly plant Wednesday due to the icy roads and harsh weather, according to the company's Facebook event page.

It is the second straight day the open house and tours, which were scheduled to coincide with Super Bowl activities, were canceled due to the weather.

GM also canceled the second production at the Arlington plant because of driving conditions and the first shift today out of concern for the safety of the 1,200 or so workers on each of the two daily shifts. GM officials hope to resume production on the second shift this afternoon.

The plant produces about 550 sport utility vehicles each shift so most work stoppages are scheduled in advance but “safety is always our highest priority,” said spokeswoman Donna McLallen.

The tours, which GM is holding as part of Super Bowl activities, drew an overflow audience Monday.

McLallen said about 200 people were turned away Monday night after more than 1,600 were given the short tours of the vehicle production line.

Good call for going on Monday, Rainmaker!  Somehow, Sleetmaker or Snowmaker don't have the same ring to them.

Hmmm...  Icemaker...   Grin

I'll stick with the "liquid precipitation assistant" handle.  But thanks for the suggestions.  uglystupid2
