Republic of Texas

« on: June 09, 2008, 05:41:53 PM »

It's almost here and I can't wait to see old and new friends and make newer ones.

My friends Bill & Kathy organize a Meet-Up group and I'll be riding down with them.  If anyone would like to ride down with us, or catch up with us while we are there, the proposed itinerary is below.  Janet is caging it, so if you buy more stuff than you can carry back north, we can probably help.

Here's the plan so far:  We will be heading down on Friday and returning Sunday mid-day.  Janet & I, along with Jerzey Bill & Texas Girl will be at the Courtyard by Marriott, Austin Central (512) 458-2340; if you mention the ROT Rally, they had a discount rate.  Not sure if they still do.  There are also other hotel's listed on the ROT Rally web site.

We plan to ride in before dinner on Friday and hang out in Downtown Austin Friday night.  The route down will head west so we can come into Austin through the Hill Country instead of I-35.  Thinking about a Hill Country ride on Saturday AM with lunch some place that TG knows (Oasis?).  Hit the Rally site Saturday afternoon until whenever.  Sunday around noon start heading back.

Suggestion for Friday Night Valkyrie Rendezvous Downtown: Star Bar around 9:00 PM
600 W Sixth (the adult end of 6th), the corner of Sixth & Nueces, down the sidewalk from Katz's Deli.
The owner, Zane, is like a brother and looking forward to it.

Here is Friday's basic outline.  And, as always, we are open to suggestions.

Meet at 8:30am Friday morning at the Dunkin Donuts at Preston & Alpha.  KSU at 9:00am  Another group is meeting us at the Waffle House in Alvarado (67 & 35W) at 10:00am if that's more convenient.

Tentative Route:
Preston Rd South
635 West
East 35 South
67 Southwest
Gas and Break Chevron Station 67 & West 35 (10 AMish)
67 Southwest
West side of Glen Rose pick up 220 South
Gas and Break Hico, Texas 220 and 6 (11:15 AMish)
281 South
Gas and Lunch, Lampasas, Texas (12:30 PMish)
281 South
71 Southeast
Gas and Break, Bee Cave, Texas (2:30 PMish)
71 Southeast (Any one staying in South Austin may want to break off here)
FM 620 North
FM2222 East
Arrive FM2222 and Reinli Street (290 and I-35) Courtyard by Marriott Central Austin (3:30 PMish)

Sounds good, we'll look for you Friday Night for the Valkyrie Rendezvous downtown at the Star Bar around 9:00. I know Doc and his son are planning on being at ROT, maybe we can get them there too.
Anyone else?

Yep, plannin on being there.  Leaving Thursday about 4.  What's up with all you guys and your hotels?  We are doing the grundge thing.  Not gonna shave, shower, or (well yes, might do the other).  We are camping on the first road just south of the Paradise Bar.  Orange/black std pulling a black trailer and a black std camped in front of an orange/gray tent with lime green chairs (we're colorful).  Not gonna get in that mess downtown Friday night but I've got tickets to the fights Saturday!!  Leaving early Sunday headed home.  Another #$%^ test Sunday night!  Cell 469-595-3222. For anyone interested in a break from the ROT activities Saturday afternoon, we are planning to ride out to the Hamilton Pool, then on to the Oasis for sunset dinner (although sunset is getting pretty late...), and back to the ROT until whenever.

KSU 3:00 from the Courtyard by Marriott Austin Central on I-35.

Hey Dave, did you make it home yet?
How was your trip? We were there, sorry that we didn't catch up to you, but we had a great time anyway.

Just talked to David awhile ago. He was in Burnet headed this way. Should be back in town in time to make a rendezvous with Technogeek for dinner around 7:30. Location in another thread, http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,263.0.html, around 5:30. Hope you can make it on such short notice! ~Jeff

Four days and 1,120 miles door to door.  Butt shaped like a Valkyrie seat.  Good road test for the Air Wings.  Didn't need the tire repair kit.  Great group to ride down with - a VTX1800 and 7 Harleys, 2 of which ridden well by ladies.  One idiot in a Suburban.  Mid 30s mpg on the way down to Austin.  38-40mpg while there and riding back.  One extremely sunburned pillion.  Met some really nice folks.  Saw a few Valkyries and a couple of Runes.  Too hot to enjoy almost anything outdoors other than riding or swimming.

Some civilized fun in the Lobby Bar at the Driskill Hotel

Just think, bikers at a piano bar singing along to The Girl From Ipanema.  In Portuguese!  OK, I made that up.

Our new friends, Laser Pat & Texas Deb.  We had some fun.

Dave, Janet & Cosmo, and some HDemon named Bill
