Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: January 30, 2011, 01:50:36 PM »

We hooked up in Clinton , Tennessee this morning and headed somewhat in a southern direction. I took this first picture before I met the other rider's on Main Street in Clinton it's pretty much a ghost town now since Wally World moved in at the Interstate exit.

Next picture is just up river from where the Clinch and Tennessee River's come together to form Watts Bar Lake.Left to Right...Smokinjoe -Half-Breed- Greg ( Smooth Rider ) - Interstate - Bernie ( Dubs ) - Tourer - Jack - Kawasaki Concours.

The TVA Kingston Fossil Plant coal fly ash slurry spill occurred just before 1 a.m. on Monday December 22, 2008, when an ash dike ruptured at an 84-acre (0.34 km2) solid waste containment area at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County, Tennessee, USA. 1.1 billion gallons (4.2 million m³) of coal fly ash slurry was released. The coal-fired power plant, located across the Clinch River from the city of Kingston, uses ponds to dewater the fly ash, a byproduct of coal combustion, which is then stored in wet form in dredge cells. The slurry (a mixture of fly ash and water) traveled across the Emory River and its Swan Pond embayment, on to the opposite shore, covering up to 300 acres (1.2 km2) of the surrounding land, damaging homes and flowing up and down stream in nearby waterways such as the Emory River and Clinch River (tributaries of the Tennessee River). It was the largest fly ash release in United States history.

These signs was in place long before the ash spill thanks to the Oak Ridge weapons plants that's up stream from here  Sad

We took some nice backroads getting from there to here...The Watts Bar Nuclear Generating Station is a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) nuclear reactor used for electric power generation and tritium production for nuclear weapons. It is located on a 1,770-acre (7.2 km²) site in Rhea County, Tennessee near Spring City, between the cities of Chattanooga and Knoxville. Watts Bar Unit 1 is the most recent civilian reactor to come on-line in the United States. Watts Bar supplies enough electricity for about 750,000 households in the Tennessee Valley....... " The Money Shot " "

This is Watts Bar Dam above is Watts Bar Lake below the Tennessee River.Outstanding  weather, outstanding ride  today with temps in the 60's and blue sky's above.

I don’t know if I love looking at these pictures or hate it crazy2

There are six inches of snow on the ground (it’s been a slow snow year so far) and 23 degrees as I type this. The road in front of my house is white from the all the salt they dump in the winter up here. . .  and the Valk is in the garage covered.

ARRRRRGGGH! I stinking HATE stinking winter !!!!!!!!!!

Joe that yellow bike always gets attention.

With that big bore kit,, it just sounds tougher than a regular 1520 flat six.

When you rode up I thought you had removed the baffles or something.

I've done that little trip many times. I used to stop at the Watts bar resort to eat but last summer when I went by it looked like it had been closed down for some time...grass was knee high. They used to have a great biscuit breakfast. I took a potental harley buyer out on a ride today, we rode up around the ocoee gorge, good little trip....it may be sold to him  cooldude

This coming June I will have owned this bike 13 years...Still my favorite and in those 13 years I've not seen anything I'd rather ride.
