Folks, I have been thinking about putting a dump bed on one of my tandem trucks. I made a couple calls and found that a 20ft grain dump bed will probably put me back about 15k. However, I have 4 freaking welders, plasma cutter, employees... Im thinking about just building my own.

I have three options. I can just sit down and design my own, I can copy a bed I like or buy plans. While I think I am fully capable of designing my own bed. I would rather not do that. Being a copy cat is easy but time consuming and the men that work for me will be waiting on me to approve every cut they make. Buying plans would cost a few bucks, but it would have material lists and my guys could get ahead of me cutting channel iron etc while I stay busy fitting and welding. HOWEVER, I cant find any plans. Do any of you guys know a source? The closest I have come is finding trailer plans (nice selection BTW) at Northern Tool's web site.

Just buy a used one it's plug and play and save a ton of time and money....Google will show you lots of sources more than likely a few locations near you.

I'm with Joe,
unless you have something totally different in mind, or you are making a show type truck, you can find good used flat beds all the time on Craigs list.

My son is taking an old beat up flat bed off an older Chevy C50 and buying a Military bed off of an old Duece 5 ton in order to make a dump. The frame width is identical and it is the same size he needs, plus the sides drop down along with the tail gate when he wants to use it as a flat bed and not a dump. He has found several for $500 to $600, You could not buy half the steel for that money.

This is for hauling grain.  It has to be a tight bed to haul soybeans.  Ive looked a bit but everything is either too small 16ft etc or too beat up.
