My mother in law IM'ed me and said "My 2 cats howling in heat coulda done a better job"... Not that she's opinionated or anything, mind you...

IMHO, there are some things that it's okay to put your "artistic touch" on, and some things should just be sung as written and left alone, and the national anthem is one of those things...

That's what happens when a singer tries to make the National Anthem their song instead of singing it like it was originally composed.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  The Star Spangled Banner is the Country's song and should only be sung one way.

Apparently she has a habit of screwing up the National Anthem.  Here's a clip of the '07 NBA All Star Game where she flubbed it.

Wow X Ring.  I had no idea she was trying to make a career out of screwing that up.  Well, if that is her aim, she is doing well because she certainly screwed up 2 of em so far.

Its a simple song. Why screw with it?  Perhaps the NFL and others should put a policy in place to have performers just sing it in its traditional manner.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of Christina's biggest fans, but she butchered a great song.  Leave the lyrics and melody as written and sing without your poetic interpretation.  However, I'll take Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful" anytime.

Nope, that by any definition was not singing.  She and Roseanne Barr both suck.

While getting the words right is important, the thing that will make me most happy
is when making your voice sound like a tremolo bar goes out of style... all pop
singers do that now...

It doesn't pay for old people to complain about popular music though... I'm reminded of
one time in the early 70s... I was listening to the White Album on the cassette
player in my car, it was summer time, "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" came
on about the time I pulled up to a red light. I looked out my open window and there
were two shocked and disgusted older ladies  glaring at me from the car next to
me...

I never cared for singers giving their own interpretation of the Nation Anthem.  And she choked, that's what happened.  She's been a pro for many years, so no excuse.

I think it's out of line comparing it to Roseann's version though.  Christina's may not have been good, but she didn't get disrespectful.

Fox News ran a poll, she didn't beat Rosanne Barr.  Barr was........ sh**

How many remember Kate Smith and her rendition of "God Bless America"   Kate also sang the national anthem like it was supposed to be sung. Kate was a huge woman with a beautiful voice and a heart to go with it.

The song miscue was just another example of the way we Americans have let the education ball slip right into the wrong pocket (so to speak).  This singer is a multi-millionaire professional that can wrap with the best of them however she doesnt know the lyrics to the national anthem.  Why?  Our education system does not teach the important stuff anymore.

I could go on and on but  I will spare you the pain of reading my rants on this subject.  Its a shame tho and I would like to help to change it.

I had a hymn on a cassette that I couldn't find anywhere. I got a 1/4 to 1/8 converter for a stereo
cord, plugged the "out" of a stereo system to the mic-in of my laptop, turned on Audacity (free)
and let 'er rip... worked great!

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

If you decide to try don't ignore the part on the audacity web page that sez stuff like "Export MP3s
with the optional LAME encoder library."... LAME just an extra piece to download, but audacity
won't generate mp3 format without it...

So this is what we sunk too.

She forgot the words.

Probably feels like crap and should.

I bet she did not mean too.

We all know the words and give her a break.

She sang with enthusiasm and great furvor.

She may have got caught up in the moment and just blew it.

Gee Whiz I have never messed up in front of millions of people.

Have you.

She will apologize and that will be that.

I thought the whole thing was a unenthusiatic event.

Lack of energy.

Well Eric, I'm glad for the civics lesson in your classes.... I am concerned that one of the available votes was " it sucked!."       2funny

My vote was also that 'it sucked largely'... for the first few minutes;  then I watched 'Wild Russia' until the 2d half kickoff.

How many times over the years have we seen half time fiasco extravaganzas that left he field damaged and fog/smoke-filled for the 2d half play?   That really gets my goat.

Here's an idea... knock $2-300 off each SB ticket, and have a contest to let a couple great high school marching bands show their stuff.  That is a half time show.

It's a simple fact that when it comes to something important take the time to make sure you do it right.  Yes, we all make mistakes, yet our national anthem is special and it's a shame and disgrace that one can't take enough pride in what it represents to see that it is sung correctly and with pride.

I heard on the news Monday that Aguilera was screwing up the National Anthem during practice on Saturday.  There was a backup singer who was apparently nailing it everytime.  Too bad someone in charge didn't have the backbone to fire Christina and have the backup perform.

They were also talking about the excuses issued by Aguilera's people.  Everything from she was still emotionally suffering from her divorce and the a bad breakup with her boyfriend to her staff was going to perform an intervention that weekend due to her substance abuse.  This was before she issued her apology.
