Ya know, I just realized that I worked all night last Superbowl Sunday

Tried to sleep this afternoon, tossed and turned and gave up at halftime, watched part of the game, made coffee and lunch, and got on the road just in time for the bars to empty out. Can't start until midnight ya know.

Now I am watching a little blue bar move from left to right hoping that this thing takes and I am not running all over replacing cards after the upgrade. at about 4-5A....

I hate upgrades.....

My wife and i were both phone people, well me still.....she was mgt and would spend the whole weekend with her techs on cuts and upgrades. gawd i'm glad i wasn't in that side of the business. I feel your pain.

Phone company, regulated side. Basicly it is a computer network anymore.

Non reg buisness systems can be worse because the customer sets the time you can work on it. The good part of that is you can set up a weekend and get it done. We get the "maintenance window" 1200-0600 that we can do customer affecting upgrades and work in. As long as everything works its great. Except for the fact that they cut OT and I make a whopping 12 bucks extra to come in and work all night long for a week. Don't these people understand that I have CHROME to buy??!!!

Tonight, we are at 31.7% so far...

woo hoo

my wife calls 'em "downgrades" 'cause there's always kinks that need to be worked out of the system, and it seems that she's the guini pig!!

Cards are hundreds of dollars apeice, reletivly new, and some just won't take the load.

If it was summer, I could be riding in the day after doing this, but noooooooooooooooooooo,,,,,  Angry

My cousin had a great job as one of those phone men who came to your office to set up all
the switching equipment. Overnight (almost) everything went digital and all that stuff he
knew how to do was useless...

I still have spring benders.  Cheesy Never got the chance to use them, the last stepper office went digital before I became CO. Chunka chunka chunka click click click click. Remember hearing that on the rotary phone when you dialed?

The digital stuff gets outdated so fast it doesnt pay to become a guru on anything, because in 3 years the software load and cards will change and in 5 it will be replaced or junked.

At least the stuff I am working on now the company is updating. One of the reasons for the upgrade though is that they quit making "X" DSL cards, now they only make "Y" DSL cards and the Y cards are not supported by software or repair.
