I took a woman for a ride (on the Valk, had to make that clear) and at the end of the day I noticed melted boot on the exhaust pipes! Yes I am a bit upset but the question is....how in the heck do I clean that crap off?

I've used Goof Off, WD40, Brake Cleaner and a cut section of a floor buffing pad.  I used to own a comercial cleaning company and have about a dozen pads left over from buffing floors.  I used a red one, but the softer brown on might be good, stay away from the black ones.  Some people use steel wool but I haven't cause the pad sections always worked.  You could always change your bike to 1-up, nipping the problem in the bud.  Roll Eyes

Always had success with Easy Off and a small plastic scraper. Might have to spray the Easy Off a few times and let it sit for minute or two each time, but it has always worked.

Also elbow grease and Chrome polish works, my wife swears it aint her, but every time we ride I have a wonderful black mark where her boot hit the exhaust, but it aint her..... Kiss

I have used a light Brillo pad, very carefully, and OR WD-40 and a shop rag, then polish back with chrome polish.

I get that all the time on my pipes I just take some very fine steel wool and lightly scuff where the boot marks are and they come right off.  It has not left a mark on my pipes and I have done it quite a few times. cooldude

I use straight car wax on a towel, as HOT as you can get the pipes.

It always works for me.

Not any help after the melt, but this is one of the bennies of my 5" stacks - they don't get hot!!!  In fact you can warm your bare hands directly on them - and I do if I forget my electric gloves.  Good luck on cleaning off the rubber - some good advice already offered.

Maybe you’ll learn that women are only suppose to ride totally naked without boots.  That way when they put their foot down by the exhaust they’ll remember to wrap them around your waist were they belong.   cooldude

That is a good idea in theory.....and don't get me wrong I am all for it.....but distracted drivers are all ready a huge safety problem.  I can just see some guy eating a big mac while talking on the cell phone now gawking out the side window as you go by and he is drifting into oncoming traffic.   Smiley

That's the secret to me. i just fire up the bike...get the pipes good and HOT...and take any rag...with ANY cleaner (and double up the rag so you don't get burned doing it!)...and presto...it wipes right off. ONLY ....if the pipes are HOT...........

westernbiker......the fine syeel wool idea is the best....0000 super fine steel wool.  just spray some TOJO-HONDA polish on the steel wool, and your boot marks will come right off with no scratches to your pretty pipes. cooldude cooldude

+1 make sure that you wipe it on with a rag so there is no overspray.

It gives your bike character.

If you want it stay perfect crate it up and send it to a museum

Otherwise live with the BooBoos and get on with it.

Well as I said, it was not just boot marks it was a couple of puddles, very thick. I rode the bike to and from work yesterday so I stopped by the store and bought a can of oven cleaner. When I got home I located a penny and locked it in a pair of vise-grips and went for the thick plastic puddles on the pipes. It came right off! Hit it with a little NEVER-DULL (all you Navy guys know about never-dull) and presto! All clean!

Oh...and by the way:

It gives your bike character.

If you want it stay perfect crate it up and send it to a museum

Otherwise live with the BooBoos and get on with it.

If you're going to be passengering big booted women then you need floorboards to protect those pipes.

Smart N Final sells a product called "Carbon Off". I've used it and it works much better than oven cleaner.

I know this post is a little old but I found it after I tried everything.... Glass cooktop cleaner and a regular old towel! Had a HUGE boot scuff and this stuff took it off in seconds. Easy, cheap, and worked better than anything I tried. Just my $.02!!!

Goo gone and soak completely and an s o s pad got that crud offin my pipes. And you can do this with the parts cold. coolsmiley Goo gone and a little elbow grease takes the bugs off my painted surfaces rather nicely. The same stuff got the oil from road construction off of my wheels. Pretty neat stuff. No affiliation no profit yadayadayada. Hope this will help some one on down the line some. cooldude RIDE SAFE.
