I have an '01 standard with Cobra pipes.  I bought it last fall and haven't even started it yet up here in the frozen North.
I did pull a couple of the spark plugs and it looks like the bike is running rich.  I opened up one of the carbs today, and it looks like the stock needle, but I am not sure.
Does anyone have the number stamped on the stock needle as the parts book does not designate this.
Thanks.

Depends on where your bike was sent, have J6KG for 96/97 and J6KJ after 97 for Stateside bikes.
J6KB for Australia and some European countries and J6KF for Switzerland.
Have tried previously for people in other countries to check if there are other numbers.
Note also that Stateside bikes run 100 main jets and Australia and others had 78 mains.
Cheers Steve

the OEM needle is non-adjustable. it most likely has the adjustable cobra needles with those pipes. lower the needle by moving the clip up one notch and open up the idle mixture screws 1/2 to 1 turn.

Sure hope you ran it long enough to get fuel stabilzer into the carbs and have the tank full. If not you may be spending some time replacing slow jets come spring. The slow jets on these bikes are small (35s) and with ethanol they clog quickly.

I forgot to say welcome the the VRCC. It's a great place to get answers, as long as they don't pertain to oil or car tires tickedoff

The needles are J6KJ.  I was not sure if these were stock or not.  Apparently they are.  Makes me wonder why the plugs are brown.
The bike only has 6125 miles on it, which averages to 600 miles a year.  The fellow that owned it couldn't ride it, which is how I ended up with it.
I have no idea if anything was added to the gas.  I put seafoam in it when I go the bike and filled the gas tank.
Spring can't come soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honda's street bike jets are sized
in millimeters.  A #35 jet has a 0.35mm hole.  A #38 jet has a .38mm hole.  a difference of .03mm.
not going to make a difference with clogging from the fuel.  getting old bad and/or dirty fuel from the tank or not running the bike for a few weeks would more likely be the problem. never running the tank from reserve after a fillup for at least 100 miles thereby getting rid of old gas/water from the bottom of the tank would be more of a concern for me.

Sorry, hit the post button by mistake.
I agree that letting the bike sit is most likely the problem Bikerboy1951 mentioned that he bought a bike last fall and hasen't started it yet. How did we get on the subject of 38 slow jets?
