CARB CLEANER

Hi, My brother-in-law who lives out of state had trouble with his carbs and the stealers wanted $1000.00 to clean/replace jets!!  I have been on the board many months ago asking questions and passing on all the info for a fix. So he's been running a lot of Techron which is really helping a lot. 

I've read a lot of posts with people having/had the same problem, so this must be a common problem. He let his just sit up for too long. At that time I didn't have a Valk but was trying to help him out. I've always wanted one but was scared to buy one just because of his problems and a lots of others having with their carbs.

I said all that to say this. I bought  a 98 Standard a couple of weeks ago with just 7,900 miles. He kept Stable in it and runs good so far. I just put a half bottle of Techron in it and will put the remaining half in it on my next fill up.

So my question is; How often do ya'll run it for preventive maintenance?

Personally, I run Chevron gasoline which has Techron in it every chance I get.  That plus 'riding' it often keeps the carbs functioning well.  I have been riding my 2000 Interstate for about 3 years and have put over 70,000 miles on it without touching the carbs.  Sometime in the next couple of months my bike will turn over 100,000 miles.

Then too, I live in Texas and can ride year round.

Forget the Techron.

Yeah , We used to have Chevron stations everywhere. Now I don't know of one! They must have all moved south!  I ride pretty much year round, except for this crazy winter!

I rotate between Lucas, Seafoam and Techron .  Each is preferred by someone with their own opinion.  I just figured I'd play the rotation, and get the benefits of all three.

That's a good way. I just wanted to know how often people use it. Once a month, twice a years, etc.

I'll run Seafoam through the system every couple months and always store the bike with a treated tank.

Well, I see everyone has their own opinion on a cleaner I personally am sold on Techron as it has always worked for me. Again I was just curious how often  to use it.   On my VTX i just use it twice a year, but it is FI.

My stealer charged me $100.00 per carb and didn't need to change jets.  Runs like a bear again.  I had to be away from the bike three months and the stable (for ethanol) and sea foam didn't work that well.  I had one tough time trying to ride it to the shop....

We have used Stabil and Seafoam.  Personally since I'm a girl (Woman) and I asked on here I usually go with the Seafoam.  I put it in at the end of the regular riding season.  Haven't done it yet for this winter.  Need to get that done today. 

I buy one can and divide it between the two Valks.  Let them run for about 20 min. just sitting in the garage since riding isn't an option right now.

Keep the chrome side up.

Hi Dragonryder2, So you just use it at the end of riding season? I just recently bought a Valk and the former owner kept Stabil in it and when I refilled, I put Techron in it. I've heard great stuff about Seafoam and will try it next. I wouldn't think it would hurt to alternate between the two.
